ಅಪೂರ್ವಃ ಕೋಽಪಿ ಕೋಪಾಗ್ನಿಃ: ಸಜ್ಜನ ಮತ್ತು ಖಲನ ಕೋಪದ ಬೆಂಕಿ

ಕ್ಲಿನಿಕ್ಕಿನ ಕೌಂಟರ್ ಬಳಿ ರೋಗಿಯ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಕರೊಬ್ಬರು ಕೋಪದಿಂದ ಕೂಗಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿ ಏನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಯದೆ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಒಂದು ಮೃದು ಮಾತು ಕೆಲವರನ್ನು ತಣ್ಣಗಾಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಕೆಲವರನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಕೆರಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವನ್ನೇ ಕೋಪವೆಂಬ ಬೆಂಕಿಯ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.

अपूर्वः कोऽपि कोपाग्निः सज्जनस्य खलस्य च
एकस्य शाम्यति स्नेहाद्वर्धतेऽन्यस्य वारितः

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

apūrvaḥ ko’pi kopāgniḥ sajjanasya khalasya ca
ekasya śāmyati snehādvardhate’nyasya vāritaḥ

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಅಪೂರ್ವಃ (अपूर्वः, apūrvaḥ) = ಹಿಂದೆಂದೂ ಕಾಣದಂಥ, ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟವಾದ (unlike any other)
ಕೋಽಪಿ (कोऽपि, ko’pi) = ಯಾವುದೋ ಒಂದು (some)
ಕೋಪಾಗ್ನಿಃ (कोपाग्निः, kopāgniḥ) = ಕೋಪವೆಂಬ ಬೆಂಕಿ (fire of anger)
ಸಜ್ಜನಸ್ಯ (सज्जनस्य, sajjanasya) = ಸಜ್ಜನನ (of the good man)
ಖಲಸ್ಯ (खलस्य, khalasya) = ಖಲನ (of the wicked man)
ಚ (च, ca) = ಮತ್ತು (and)
ಏಕಸ್ಯ (एकस्य, ekasya) = ಒಬ್ಬನದು (of the one)
ಶಾಮ್ಯತಿ (शाम्यति, śāmyati) = ಶಾಂತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ (is quenched)
ಸ್ನೇಹಾದ್ವರ್ಧತೇಽನ್ಯಸ್ಯ (स्नेहाद्वर्धतेऽन्यस्य, snehādvardhate’nyasya) = ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ, ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬನದು ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತದೆ (by affection, and in the other it grows)
ವಾರಿತಃ (वारितः, vāritaḥ) = ತಡೆದಾಗ (when it is checked)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಸಜ್ಜನನ ಮತ್ತು ಖಲನ ಕೋಪದ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಯಾವುದೋ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಬೆಂಕಿ. ಒಬ್ಬನದು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಶಾಂತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬನದು ತಡೆದಾಗ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The fire of anger in the good man and in the wicked man is a strange fire. In the one it is quenched by affection. In the other it grows when it is checked.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಸ್ನೇಹ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥವೂ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥವೂ ಉಂಟು. ಬೆಂಕಿಗೆ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಹಾಕಿದರೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಓದುಗನಿಗೆ ನೆನಪಾಗಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯೇ ಅರ್ಥ, ಅದು ಬೆಂಕಿಯನ್ನು ಆರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

The word sneha means affection and also oil. A reader may recall that oil makes a fire grow. But the sense here is affection, and it quenches the fire.

ಅಪೂರ್ವ ಎಂದರೆ ಹಿಂದೆ ಇಲ್ಲದ್ದು. ಬೆಂಕಿ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ನೀರಿನಿಂದ ಆರುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ತಡೆದರೆ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಹಾಗಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಕವಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

Apurva means not seen before. Fire is normally put out by water and stopped when checked. The poet says this fire is not like that.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಡನೆ ಹೇಗೆ ನಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಲು ಅವರ ಸ್ವಭಾವವನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುವುದು ಮೊದಲ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ. ಒಬ್ಬರಿಗೆ ಮೃದು ಮಾತು ಹಿತ, ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರಿಗೆ ಅದೇ ಮೃದು ಮಾತು ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯವಾಗಿ ತೋರಬಹುದು.

To know how to deal with an angry person, the first step is to read their nature. A soft word soothes one, and to another the same word may look like weakness.

ಆದರೆ ಯಾರನ್ನೂ ಪೂರ್ತಿ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾಕುವುದು ಸರಿಯಲ್ಲ. ಒಬ್ಬನ ಕೋಪ ಹೇಗೆ ನಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸುವುದೇ ಅವನ ಸ್ವಭಾವದ ಸೂಚನೆ.

But it is not right to place anyone wholly in one class. How a person’s anger behaves is itself a clue to his nature.
