ಯಥಾ ಯಥೈವ ಸ್ನೇಹೇನ: ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿದಂತೆ ಖಲನ ಬೇಗೆ

ಹಳೆಯ ಮನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಲೆ ಉರಿಯುವುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಸಂಗತಿ ಗೊತ್ತು. ಸೌದೆ ಹಾಕಿದಷ್ಟೂ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಜೋರಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಧನ್ಯವಾದ ಹೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದೇ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಖಲನಿಗೆ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯತನಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಫಲ ಬೇಗೆಯೇ ಆದ ವಿಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಅದು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಯಥಾ ಯಥೈವ (यथा यथैव, yathā yathaiva) = ಎಷ್ಟೆಷ್ಟು ಹಾಗೆಯೇ (as much as ever)
ಸ್ನೇಹೇನ (स्नेहेन, snehena) = ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ, ಎಣ್ಣೆಯಿಂದ (with affection, with oil)
ಭೂಯಿಷ್ಠಮುಪಚರ್ಯತೇ (भूयिष्ठमुपचर्यते, bhūyiṣṭhamupacaryate) = ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಉಪಚರಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ (he is tended the most)
ಧತ್ತೇ (धत्ते, dhatte) = ತಾಳುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾನೆ (he bears, he gives)
ತಥಾ ತಥಾ (तथा तथा, tathā tathā) = ಅಷ್ಟಷ್ಟು (so much, so much)
ತಾಪಂ (तापं, tāpaṃ) = ಬೇಗೆಯನ್ನು (heat)
ಮಹಾವೈಶ್ವಾನರಃ (महावैश्वानरः, mahāvaiśvānaraḥ) = ಮಹಾಗ್ನಿಯಂತಹ (a great fire)
ಖಲಃ (खलः, khalaḥ) = ಖಲ (the wicked man)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಖಲನನ್ನು ಎಷ್ಟೆಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಉಪಚರಿಸುತ್ತೇವೋ, ಮಹಾಗ್ನಿಯಂತಹ ಅವನು ಅಷ್ಟಷ್ಟು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬೇಗೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The more lovingly the wicked man is tended, the more heat he gives out, like a great fire.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಸ್ನೇಹ ಎಂಬ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಎಂದೂ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಎಂದೂ ಅರ್ಥ ಉಂಟು. ಬೆಂಕಿಗೆ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಹಾಕಿದರೆ ಏನಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಚಿತ್ರವೂ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಜೊತೆಗೇ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

Sneha means affection and also oil. So the picture of oil poured on a fire comes along with it.

ವೈಶ್ವಾನರ ಎಂದರೆ ಅಗ್ನಿ. ಮಹಾವೈಶ್ವಾನರ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಇದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಒಲೆಯ ಬೆಂಕಿಯಲ್ಲ, ಸುಡುವ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಅಗ್ನಿ ಎಂದು ಕವಿ ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

Vaishvanara means fire. By saying mahavaishvanara the poet stresses that this is no hearth fire but a great blaze.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಉಪಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಹಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಾಗ ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲೇ ತಪ್ಪು ಹುಡುಕುವುದು ಬೇಡ. ಕೆಲವರ ಬೇಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಉಪಚಾರದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಲ್ಲ, ಅವರ ಸ್ವಭಾವದಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದು.

When kindness is repaid with bitterness, we need not hunt for the fault in ourselves. Some people’s heat comes from their nature and not from our care.

ಹಾಗೆಂದು ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಖಲ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುವುದು ತಪ್ಪು. ಬೇಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಸೌದೆ ಹಾಕುವ ಕೈಯನ್ನು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸುವುದು ಕಲಿಯಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಪಾಠ.

Yet it would be wrong to call everyone wicked. The lesson is only that when the heat keeps rising, we should learn to stop feeding the fire.
