Unheard of are the tongue-snakes that lie in the burrow of the crooked one’s mouth. They touch one person at the root of the ear, and they take the life of another.
About this subhashita
Vyala is a vicious snake or beast, and rasana is the tongue. The poet joins them into one metaphor, the tongue that is itself the snake.
Apurva means never seen before. A snake’s hole is in the earth, here it is the mouth. And the verse says touch rather than bite, the soft touch of a whisper.

For life today
Today this touch is not limited to the ear. A forwarded message or a group chat does the ear-to-ear work much faster.
Before passing a word on, we can think for a moment whose life it will touch. That moment is in our own hands.
