ಅಪಕಾರಮಸಂಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ: ಹಾವು ಸುತ್ತದಿರುವುದೇ ಲಾಭ

ಕಾಡಿನ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋಗಿ ಮನೆಗೆ ಸುರಕ್ಷಿತವಾಗಿ ಬಂದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕ ಮೊದಲು ಹೇಳುವುದು ಏನೂ ಆಗಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು. ಆ ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಸಮಾಧಾನ ಇದೆ.

ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದೇ ಸಮಾಧಾನವನ್ನು ದುರ್ಜನರೊಂದಿಗಿನ ವ್ಯವಹಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದಲ್ಲದೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಲಾಭದ ಲೆಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.

नैष लाभो भुजंगेन वेष्टितो यन्न दृश्यते

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಅಪಕಾರಮಸಂಪ್ರಾಪ್ಯ (अपकारमसंप्राप्य, apakāramasaṃprāpya) = ಹಾನಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯದೆ (without having received harm)
ತುಷ್ಯೇತ್ (तुष्येत्, tuṣyet) = ಸಂತೋಷಪಡಬೇಕು (should be content)
ಸಾಧುರಸಾಧುತಃ (साधुरसाधुतः, sādhurasādhutaḥ) = ಸಾಧು ಅಸಾಧುವಿನಿಂದ (the good man, from the bad)
ನೈಷ (नैष, naiṣa) = ಇದು ಅಲ್ಲವೇ (is this not)
ಲಾಭೋ (लाभो, lābho) = ಲಾಭ (a gain)
ಭುಜಂಗೇನ (भुजंगेन, bhujaṃgena) = ಹಾವಿನಿಂದ (by a serpent)
ವೇಷ್ಟಿತೋ (वेष्टितो, veṣṭito) = ಸುತ್ತಿಕೊಳ್ಳದಿರುವುದು (wrapped round)
ಯನ್ನ (यन्न, yanna) = ಯಾವುದು ಇಲ್ಲವೋ (that not)
ದೃಶ್ಯತೇ (दृश्यते, dṛśyate) = ಕಾಣುವುದು (is seen)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಅಸಾಧುವಿನಿಂದ ಹಾನಿಯೇ ಬರದಿದ್ದರೆ ಸಾಧು ಸಂತೋಷಪಡಬೇಕು. ಹಾವು ಸುತ್ತಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದು ಕಾಣದಿರುವುದು ಲಾಭವಲ್ಲವೇ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

A good man should be content to have received no harm from a bad one. Is it not a gain that one is not seen wrapped round by a serpent?

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಸಾಧು ಮತ್ತು ಅಸಾಧು ಎಂಬ ಜೋಡಿ ಪದಗಳು ಒಂದೇ ವಾಕ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಎದುರೆದುರಾಗಿವೆ. ಸಾಧುವಿನ ಬಯಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಚಿಕ್ಕದು, ಹಾನಿ ಬರದಿರಲಿ ಎಂಬುದಷ್ಟೇ.

The pair sadhu and asadhu stand face to face in one sentence. The good man’s wish here is very small, only that no harm may come.

ನೈಷ ಲಾಭೋ ಎಂಬ ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ನಾವು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯ ಧಾಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಿದ್ದೇವೆ: ಇದು ಲಾಭವಲ್ಲವೇ. ಹಾವಿನ ಸುತ್ತು ಕಾಣದಿರುವುದನ್ನೇ ಲಾಭ ಎನ್ನುವ ಕವಿಯ ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯ ದುರ್ಜನನ ಸ್ವಭಾವವನ್ನು ಹಾವಿಗೆ ಸಮ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.

We have read the part naisha labho as a question: is this not a gain. By counting the unseen coil of a snake as profit, the poet’s irony sets the wicked man’s nature beside a serpent’s.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಕಷ್ಟದ ಸಹೋದ್ಯೋಗಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ತಿಂಗಳು ಜಗಳವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಕಳೆದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಾಧನೆ ಎಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಬಹುದು. ಎಲ್ಲ ಲಾಭಗಳೂ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸದ್ದಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

If a month passes with a difficult colleague and no quarrel, it can be counted as a small achievement. Not every gain arrives with a loud noise.

ಆದರೆ ಹಾನಿ ಆಗದಿರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ತೃಪ್ತಿ ಪಡುವುದು ಎಚ್ಚರ ಬಿಡುವುದು ಎಂದಲ್ಲ. ಹಾವು ಸುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದರೆ ಅದು ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದರ್ಥವಲ್ಲ.

But being content that no harm came does not mean dropping our guard. That the snake has not coiled round us does not mean it is not there.
