ಪರಗುಹ್ಯಗುಪ್ತಿನಿಪುಣಂ: ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಕಡಿಯುವ ಇಲಿಗಳಂತೆ

ಹಳೆಯ ಪೆಟ್ಟಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಟ್ಟಿದ್ದ ರೇಷ್ಮೆ ಸೀರೆಯನ್ನು ಹಬ್ಬಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರತೆಗೆದಾಗ ಇಲಿ ಕಡಿದ ತೂತು ಕಂಡು ನಿರಾಸೆಯಾದ ಅನುಭವ ಹಲವರಿಗೆ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅಂತಹ ಇಲಿಗಳನ್ನು ಖಲರಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯ ಮೂಲ ಒಂದು ಪದದ ಎರಡು ಅರ್ಥಗಳು. ಅದನ್ನು ಕೆಳಗೆ ಬಿಡಿಸಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಪರಗುಹ್ಯಗುಪ್ತಿನಿಪುಣಂ (परगुह्यगुप्तिनिपुणं, paraguhyaguptinipuṇaṃ) = ಇತರರ ಗುಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಪುಣನಾದ (skilled in guarding the secrets of others)
ಗುಣಮಯಮಖಿಲೈಃ (गुणमयमखिलैः, guṇamayamakhilaiḥ) = ಗುಣಮಯನಾದ, ಎಲ್ಲರಿಂದ (made of virtues, by all)
ಸಮೀಹಿತಂ (समीहितं, samīhitaṃ) = ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಬಯಸುವವನನ್ನು (the one desired)
ನಿತರಾಮ್ (नितराम्, nitarām) = ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ (greatly)
ಲಲಿತಾಂಬರಮಿವ (ललिताम्बरमिव, lalitāmbaramiva) = ಸುಂದರ ವಸ್ತ್ರದಂತೆ (like a lovely garment)
ಸಜ್ಜನಮಾಖವ (सज्जनमाखव, sajjanamākhava) = ಸಜ್ಜನನನ್ನು, ಇಲಿಗಳು (the good man, mice)
ಇವ (इव, iva) = ಹಾಗೆ (as)
ದೂಷಯಂತಿ (दूषयन्ति, dūṣayanti) = ಹಾಳುಮಾಡುತ್ತವೆ, ದೂಷಿಸುತ್ತವೆ (spoil, defame)
ಖಲಾಃ (खलाः, khalāḥ) = ಖಲರು (the wicked)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಇತರರ ಗುಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಪುಣನಾದ, ಗುಣಗಳೇ ತುಂಬಿದ, ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ ಬಯಸುವ ಸಜ್ಜನನನ್ನು, ಸುಂದರವಾದ ವಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನು ಇಲಿಗಳು ಕಡಿಯುವಂತೆ, ಖಲರು ದೂಷಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The good man, skilled at guarding the secrets of others, made wholly of virtues, and greatly prized by all, is spoiled by the wicked as mice spoil a lovely garment.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಗುಣ ಎಂದರೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಲಕ್ಷಣ, ಜೊತೆಗೆ ದಾರ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥವೂ ಇದೆ. ಗುಣಮಯ ಎಂದರೆ ಗುಣಗಳಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದ, ಅಥವಾ ದಾರದಿಂದ ನೇಯ್ದ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಸಜ್ಜನನಿಗೂ ವಸ್ತ್ರಕ್ಕೂ ಒಂದೇ ವಿಶೇಷಣ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತದೆ.

Guna means a good quality and also a thread. Gunamaya therefore means made of virtues, or woven of thread. So one description suits both the good man and the garment.

ಪರಗುಹ್ಯಗುಪ್ತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಡಬೇಕಾದ ಸಂಗತಿಯನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಡುವುದು. ವಸ್ತ್ರವೂ ಮುಚ್ಚುವ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನೇ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲಿಗೆ ಬಟ್ಟೆಯ ಬೆಲೆ ತಿಳಿಯದು, ಖಲನಿಗೆ ಸಜ್ಜನನ ಬೆಲೆ ತಿಳಿಯದು.

Paraguhyagupti is keeping hidden what another needs kept hidden. A garment too does its work by covering. The mouse does not know the worth of the cloth, and the wicked do not know the worth of the good man.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಇತರರ ಗುಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುವ ವೈದ್ಯರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ರೋಗಿಗಳಿಗೆ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸವಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಂತಹ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸವನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಮಾತಿನಿಂದ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪವಾಗಿ ಕಡಿಯುವವರು ನಮ್ಮ ನಡುವೆಯೂ ಇರಬಹುದು.

Patients trust a doctor who keeps their confidences. There may be people among us too who gnaw away at such trust, a little at a time, with their talk.

ಇಲಿ ಕಡಿದ ಬಟ್ಟೆಯ ತೂತು ಒಂದು ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಗೌರವ ಕುಸಿಯುವುದೂ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ನಿಂದೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬೇಗನೆ ಗಮನಿಸಿ ತಡೆಯುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು.

A hole gnawed in cloth does not appear in a day. Respect also falls away in the same manner. So it is good to notice small slights early and stop them.
