ನಾಲ್ಪೀಯಸಿ ನಿಬಧ್ನನ್ತಿ: ಸಣ್ಣದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಾಲಿಡದವರು

ಒಂದು ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ನಾವು ಎಷ್ಟು ದೊಡ್ಡದಾಗಿ ಕಲ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂಬುದರಿಂದಲೇ ಅದು ಎಷ್ಟು ದೂರ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಬಹುಪಾಲು ನಿರ್ಧಾರವಾಗಿಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಗುರಿ ಸಣ್ಣದಾದರೆ ಶ್ರಮವೂ ಸಣ್ಣದಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಅದನ್ನು ಕಾಲಿಡುವ ಒಂದು ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ನಾಲ್ಪೀಯಸಿ ನಿಬಧ್ನನ್ತಿ ಪದಮುನ್ನತಚೇತಸಃ ।
ಯೇಷಾಂ ಭುವನಲಾಭೇಽಪಿ ನಿಃಸೀಮಾನೋ ಮನೋರಥಾಃ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

नाल्पीयसि निबध्नन्ति पदमुन्नतचेतसः ।
येषां भुवनलाभेऽपि निःसीमानो मनोरथाः ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

nālpīyasi nibadhnanti padamunnatacetasaḥ |
yeṣāṃ bhuvanalābhe’pi niḥsīmāno manorathāḥ ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ನ (न, na) = ಇಲ್ಲ (not)
ಅಲ್ಪೀಯಸಿ (अल्पीयसि, alpīyasi) = ಸಣ್ಣದಾದುದರ ಮೇಲೆ (on what is smaller)
ನಿಬಧ್ನನ್ತಿ (निबध्नन्ति, nibadhnanti) = ಕಟ್ಟಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ (do they fix, do they tie down)
ಪದಮ್ (पदम्, padam) = ಕಾಲನ್ನು (the foot)
ಉನ್ನತಚೇತಸಃ (उन्नतचेतसः, unnatacetasaḥ) = ಎತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಎದ್ದ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನವರು (those whose minds are lifted high)
ಯೇಷಾಮ್ (येषाम्, yeṣām) = ಯಾರ (of whom)
ಭುವನ (भुवन, bhuvana) = ಲೋಕವೇ (a whole world)
ಲಾಭೇ (लाभे, lābhe) = ಸಿಕ್ಕಾಗ (in the winning)
ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಸಹ (even)
ನಿಃಸೀಮಾನಃ (निःसीमानः, niḥsīmānaḥ) = ಎಲ್ಲೆಯಿಲ್ಲದವು (are without a boundary)
ಮನೋರಥಾಃ (मनोरथाः, manorathāḥ) = ಮನೋರಥಗಳು (the chariots of the mind, the aspirations)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಎತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಎದ್ದ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನವರು ಸಣ್ಣದಾದ ಯಾವುದರ ಮೇಲೂ ಕಾಲಿಟ್ಟು ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಡೀ ಲೋಕವೇ ಕೈಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಾಗಲೂ ಅವರ ಮನೋರಥಗಳಿಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲೆ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Those whose minds are lifted high do not plant a foot on anything small. Even with a whole world in hand, their aspirations have no boundary.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಪದಂ ನಿಬಧ್ನನ್ತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಕಾಲನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುವುದು, ಅಂದರೆ ಇಟ್ಟು ಅಲ್ಲೇ ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದು. ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಸಣ್ಣದನ್ನು ತುಳಿಯುವ ಮಾತಾಡುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಣ್ಣದನ್ನು ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿಯ ತಾಣ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಿದೆ.

Padam nibadhnanti is to tie down the foot, that is, to set it down and stay there. The verse is not about trampling on small things. It says they do not make a resting place of them.

ಮನೋರಥ ಎಂಬ ಪದದ ಒಳಗೆ ಒಂದು ರಥ ಇದೆ: ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ರಥ. ನಿಃಸೀಮಾನ್ ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿ ಸೀಮಾ ಎಂದರೆ ಹೊಲದ ಗಡಿ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ರಥ ಓಡುತ್ತಿದೆ, ಆದರೆ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಗಡಿ ಇಲ್ಲ.

Inside the word manoratha there is a chariot: the chariot of the mind. In nihsiman, sima is the boundary line of a field. So a chariot is running in this verse, and there is no boundary stone to halt it.

ಸಜ್ಜನಪ್ರಶಂಸಾ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವುದರಿಂದ ಈ ಮನೋರಥ ದುರಾಸೆಯಲ್ಲ. ಲೋಕವೇ ಸಿಕ್ಕರೂ ಸಾಲದು ಎನ್ನುವುದರ ಅರ್ಥ, ಅವರು ಬಯಸುವುದನ್ನು ಲೋಕ ಕೊಡಲಾರದು ಎಂದು.

Because it stands in the section praising the good, this manoratha is not greed. That a whole world would not be enough means only that what they want is not a thing the world can supply.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ ಪಾಸಾಗುವುದನ್ನೇ ಗುರಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ದಿನ ನಿಂತುಬಿಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ರೋಗಿಯನ್ನು ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ನೋಡುವುದನ್ನು ಗುರಿ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡವನಿಗೆ ನಿಲ್ಲುವ ದಿನ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

A student whose aim is to pass the examination comes to a stop on the day of the examination. For one whose aim is to look after a patient properly there is no such day.

ಆದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪ ಎಂದರೆ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಓಟ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಸಣ್ಣದರ ಮೇಲೆ ನೆಲೆ ನಿಲ್ಲಬೇಡ ಎಂದು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಣ್ಣ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಯನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ.

But an aim without a boundary is not the same as a restless run. The verse says do not settle on the small. It does not say despise the small step.
