ಸ್ನೇಹಚ್ಛೇದೇಽಪಿ ಸಾಧೂನಾಂ: ಮುರಿದ ತಾವರೆಯ ಎಳೆ

ಹಳೆಯ ಗೆಳೆತನ ಒಂದು ದಿನ ನಿಂತುಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೂ ಆ ಗೆಳೆಯನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೆಟ್ಟದಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಲು ಕೆಲವರಿಗೆ ಬರುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ.

ಆ ಉಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಎಳೆಯನ್ನು ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ತಾವರೆಯ ದಂಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಸ್ನೇಹಚ್ಛೇದೇಽಪಿ ಸಾಧೂನಾಂ ಗುಣಾ ನಾಯಾನ್ತಿ ವಿಕ್ರಿಯಾಮ್ ।
ಭಙ್ಗೇನಾಪಿ ಮೃಣಾಲಾನಾಮನುಬಧ್ನನ್ತಿ ತನ್ತವಃ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

स्नेहच्छेदेऽपि साधूनां गुणा नायान्ति विक्रियाम् ।
भङ्गेनापि मृणालानामनुबध्नन्ति तन्तवः ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

snehacchede’pi sādhūnāṃ guṇā nāyānti vikriyām |
bhaṅgenāpi mṛṇālānāmanubadhnanti tantavaḥ ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಸ್ನೇಹ (स्नेह, sneha) = ಸ್ನೇಹದ; ಜಿಡ್ಡಿನ (of affection; of oil)
ಛೇದೇ (छेदे, chede) = ತುಂಡಾದಾಗ (in the cutting)
ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಕೂಡ (even)
ಸಾಧೂನಾಂ (साधूनां, sādhūnāṃ) = ಸಜ್ಜನರ (of the good)
ಗುಣಾ (गुणा, guṇā) = ಗುಣಗಳು; ಎಳೆಗಳು (the qualities; the threads)
ನ (न, na) = ಇಲ್ಲ (not)
ಆಯಾನ್ತಿ (आयान्ति, āyānti) = ಬರುತ್ತವೆ (come to)
ವಿಕ್ರಿಯಾಮ್ (विक्रियाम्, vikriyām) = ವಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ (a change for the worse)
ಭಙ್ಗೇನ (भङ्गेन, bhaṅgena) = ಮುರಿಯುವುದರಿಂದ (by the snapping)
ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಕೂಡ (even)
ಮೃಣಾಲಾನಾಮ್ (मृणालानाम्, mṛṇālānām) = ತಾವರೆಯ ದಂಟುಗಳ (of lotus stalks)
ಅನುಬಧ್ನನ್ತಿ (अनुबध्नन्ति, anubadhnanti) = ಆಮೇಲೂ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತವೆ (go on binding)
ತನ್ತವಃ (तन्तवः, tantavaḥ) = ಎಳೆಗಳು (the fibres)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಸ್ನೇಹ ತುಂಡಾದರೂ ಸಜ್ಜನರ ಗುಣಗಳು ವಿಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ತಾವರೆಯ ದಂಟುಗಳು ಮುರಿದಾಗಲೂ ಅವುಗಳ ಎಳೆಗಳು ಎರಡು ತುಂಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದೇ ಇರುತ್ತವೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Even when affection is cut, the qualities of the good do not turn. Even when lotus stalks are snapped, their fibres go on holding the pieces together.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಸ್ನೇಹ ಎಂಬ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಎಂದೂ ಎಣ್ಣೆ, ಜಿಡ್ಡು ಎಂದೂ ಅರ್ಥ. ಗುಣ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯತನ ಎಂದೂ ದಾರ ಎಂದೂ ಅರ್ಥ. ಎರಡು ಪದಗಳೂ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿಗೂ ತಾವರೆಗೂ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತವೆ.

Sneha means affection and also oil or moisture. Guna means virtue and also thread. Both words fit the man and the lotus at once.

ಮೃಣಾಲ ಎಂದರೆ ತಾವರೆಯ ದಂಟು. ಅದನ್ನು ಮುರಿದರೆ ಎರಡು ತುಂಡುಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ತೆಳುವಾದ ಬಿಳಿ ಎಳೆಗಳು ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಕೆರೆಯ ದಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಜನ ನೋಡಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Mrinala is the lotus stalk. Snap it and thin white fibres stay stretched between the two pieces. Many people have seen this at a tank’s edge.

ಅನುಬಧ್ನಂತಿ ಎಂಬ ಪದದಲ್ಲಿ ಅನು ಎಂಬ ಉಪಸರ್ಗ ಇದೆ: ಆಮೇಲೂ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದು. ಮುರಿತದ ನಂತರವೂ ಉಳಿಯುವ ನಂಟು ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಆ ಒಂದು ಉಪಸರ್ಗದಿಂದ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

Anubadhnanti carries the prefix anu, after. The sense of a tie that lasts past the break comes from that one prefix.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದವರು ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ವರ್ಷಗಳ ನಂತರವೂ ಒಂದು ಕಠಿಣ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ಬಂದಾಗ ಫೋನ್ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂದೆಮುಂದೆ ನೋಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಆ ಎಳೆ ಇದೇ.

People who trained together move to different hospitals. Years later, with a hard case in hand, neither hesitates to ring the other. That is the fibre.

ಎಲ್ಲ ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನೂ ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕೆಂದು ಇದರ ಅರ್ಥವಲ್ಲ. ಮುಗಿದ ಸಂಬಂಧವನ್ನು ಕೆಟ್ಟದಾಗಿ ಮುಗಿಸಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದಷ್ಟೇ.

This does not mean every tie must be kept. Only that a tie which is over need not be ended badly.
