ಪತಿತೋಽಪಿ ರಾಹುವದನೇ: ರಾಹುವಿನ ಬಾಯಲ್ಲೂ ಕಮಲ ಅರಳಿಸುವ ಸೂರ್ಯ

ಗ್ರಹಣದ ದಿನ ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಮೇಲೆ ನೆರಳು ಬೀಳುವುದನ್ನು ನಮ್ಮ ಪುರಾಣಗಳು ರಾಹು ನುಂಗಿದ ಕತೆಯಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಆ ಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ತಿರುವಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ತರಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಈ ಆರ್ಯಾ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಸೂರ್ಯನನ್ನು, ಆಪತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲೂ ತಾನು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಬಿಡದ ಮಹಾತ್ಮರಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

पतितोऽपि राहुवदने तरणिर्बोधयति पद्मखण्डानि
भवति विपद्यपि महतामङ्गीकृतवस्तुनिर्वाहः

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಪತಿತಃ (पतितः, patitaḥ) = ಬಿದ್ದವನು (fallen)
ಅಪಿ (अपि, api) = ಆದರೂ (even)
ರಾಹುವದನೇ (राहुवदने, rāhuvadane) = ರಾಹುವಿನ ಬಾಯಿಯಲ್ಲಿ (into the mouth of Rahu)
ತರಣಿಃ (तरणिः, taraṇiḥ) = ಸೂರ್ಯ (the sun)
ಬೋಧಯತಿ (बोधयति, bodhayati) = ಅರಳಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ (awakens)
ಪದ್ಮಖಂಡಾನಿ (पद्मखण्डानि, padmakhaṇḍāni) = ಕಮಲಗಳ ಗುಂಪುಗಳನ್ನು (the clusters of lotuses)
ಭವತಿ (भवति, bhavati) = ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ (there is)
ವಿಪದಿ (विपदि, vipadi) = ಆಪತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ (in misfortune)

ಅಂಗೀಕೃತವಸ್ತುನಿರ್ವಾಹಃ (अङ्गीकृतवस्तुनिर्वाहः, aṅgīkṛtavastunirvāhaḥ) = ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವುದು (the carrying through of what they have taken up)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ರಾಹುವಿನ ಬಾಯಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದರೂ ಸೂರ್ಯ ಕಮಲಗಳ ಗುಂಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಅರಳಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಮಹಾತ್ಮರು ಆಪತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೂ ತಾವು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Even fallen into the mouth of Rahu, the sun awakens the clusters of lotuses. In the same way, even in misfortune, the great carry through what they have taken up.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಬೋಧಯತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಕಮಲ ಅರಳುವುದನ್ನು ಸೂರ್ಯ ಕಮಲವನ್ನು ಎಬ್ಬಿಸುವುದು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವ ಕವಿ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯವನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

Bodhayati means awakens. The poets’ habit of speaking of the sun as waking the lotus is used here.

ಇಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಹು ಎಂಬುದು ಗ್ರಹಣದ ಪುರಾಣ ಕಲ್ಪನೆ. ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದನ್ನು ಖಗೋಳ ವಿವರವಾಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲ, ತಡೆಯ ಚಿಹ್ನೆಯಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿದೆ.

Rahu here is the traditional notion behind an eclipse. The verse uses it not as astronomy but as a sign of obstruction.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆಯ ತೊಂದರೆ ಎಷ್ಟೇ ಇದ್ದರೂ ವಾರ್ಡ್ ರೌಂಡ್ಸ್ ತಪ್ಪದೆ ಬರುವ ಹಿರಿಯರನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಅವರ ನಿಷ್ಠೆ ಬಹಳ ಮೌನವಾದದ್ದು.

We have seen seniors who come for ward rounds without fail, whatever troubles they carry from home. Their steadfastness is a very quiet one.

ಆದರೆ ಆಪತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ ಬೇಡ ಎಂದು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡ ಕೆಲಸ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಬೇಕು. ಹೊಣೆ ನಮ್ಮದಾದಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ಇದು ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

The verse is not saying that one must never rest in distress. Note the phrase what they have taken up. It applies only when the responsibility is truly ours.
