ಸಂತಸ್ತೃಣೋತ್ಸಾರಣಂ: ತಲೆಯ ಕಸಕ್ಕೆ ಕೋಟಿ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಬೆಲೆ ಕೊಡುವವರು

ಕೈಹಿಡಿದು ರಸ್ತೆ ದಾಟಿಸಿದವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಧನ್ಯವಾದ ಹೇಳಿ ಮರೆತುಬಿಡುವುದು ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವರ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ. ಆದರೆ ಕೆಲವರು ಅಂಥ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಹಾಯವನ್ನು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ನೆನಪಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇಂಥ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯ ಅಳತೆಯನ್ನು ಸಂತರಿಗೂ ದುಷ್ಟರಿಗೂ ಅಕ್ಕಪಕ್ಕ ಇಟ್ಟು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದೊಂದು ನಾಲ್ಕು ಪಾದಗಳ ವೃತ್ತ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಸಂತಸ್ತೃಣೋತ್ಸಾರಣಮುತ್ತಮಾಂಗಾತ್ (सन्तस्तृणोत्सारणमुत्तमाङ्गात्, santastṛṇotsāraṇamuttamāṅgāt) = ಸಂತರು, ತಲೆಯಿಂದ ಹುಲ್ಲು ತೆಗೆಯುವುದನ್ನು (the good, the removing of a straw from the head)
ಸುವರ್ಣಕೋಟ್ಯರ್ಪಣಮಾಮನಂತಿ (सुवर्णकोट्यर्पणमामनन्ति, suvarṇakoṭyarpaṇamāmananti) = ಕೋಟಿ ಚಿನ್ನ ಅರ್ಪಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಮ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ (they reckon equal to the offering of crores of gold)

ವೈರಮಿಹೋದ್ವಹಂತಿ (वैरमिहोद्वहन्ति, vairamihodvahanti) = ವೈರವನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊತ್ತೇ ಇರುತ್ತಾರೆ (go on bearing enmity here)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ಒಂದು ಹುಲ್ಲನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಡುವ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಹಾಯವನ್ನೂ ಸಂತರು ಕೋಟಿ ಚಿನ್ನ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದಷ್ಟು ದೊಡ್ಡದು ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಕೆಲವು ದುಷ್ಟರು, ತಮಗೆ ಪ್ರಾಣ ಉಳಿಸುವ ಉಪಕಾರ ಆದಾಗಲೂ, ವೈರವನ್ನೇ ಹೊತ್ತು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Even the small help of picking a straw off the head the good reckon as great as offering crores of gold. But certain other wicked people, even when a favour has been done at the cost of a life, go on bearing enmity.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಂಟಿದ ಹುಲ್ಲು ಕಂಡೂ ಹೇಳದೆ ಬಿಡುವವರೂ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಂಥ ಅತಿ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಹಾಯವನ್ನು ಕವಿ ಉದ್ದೇಶಪೂರ್ವಕವಾಗಿ ಆರಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ.

Some would see a straw stuck on the head and say nothing. The poet picks so small a help on purpose.

ಕೋಟಿ ಚಿನ್ನ ಮತ್ತು ಒಂದು ಹುಲ್ಲಿನ ನಡುವಿನ ದೂರವೇ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಚಮತ್ಕಾರ. ಮೊದಲ ಸಾಲು ಅತಿ ಸಣ್ಣ ಉಪಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಎರಡನೇ ಸಾಲು ಅತಿ ದೊಡ್ಡದಕ್ಕೂ ಮೆಚ್ಚದವರನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

The gap between crores of gold and a single straw is the turn here. The first line shows thanks for the smallest favour, the second shows people who are not thankful even for the greatest.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಕಿರಿಯರು ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ವಿಷಯ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಟ್ಟಾಗ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಮನಸಾರೆ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆ ತೋರಿಸುವುದು ಹಿರಿಯರ ದೊಡ್ಡಸ್ತಿಕೆ. ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಬಹಳ ಬೆಲೆಯುಳ್ಳದ್ದು.

When juniors teach us even a small thing, thanking them wholeheartedly is the mark of an elder. In a classroom this counts for a great deal.

ಉಪಕಾರ ಮಾಡಿಯೂ ವೈರ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದರೆ ಕಹಿ ಆಗುವುದು ಸಹಜ. ಆದರೆ ಅಂಥ ಒಂದು ಅನುಭವದಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಅಳೆಯಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ.

If a kindness is met with enmity, feeling bitter is natural. But one such experience need not become the measure of everyone.
