The wicked, sounding harshly and giving dirt, hurt sorely like chains of bondage. The good, like jewelled anklets, steal the mind at every step with pleasing sounds.
About this subhashita
The word maladayaka suits both. For the chain it is rust or dirt, for the wicked it is stain on the mind.
One kind of sound is heard in two ways. The screech of a chain and the jingle of an anklet are both the sound of metal, yet they act differently on the listener.

For life today
Tone of speech is like this. The same matter said harshly hurts, said gently it opens the listener’s mind. Doctors who must break bad news to a patient know this lesson well.
Beyond the sound others make, we may also ask what our own footsteps sound like.
