About this subhashita
Each of the four items ends in the dative case: danaya, sukritaya, vinishchayaya, paropakaraya. It is the form that says for what purpose. The verse pairs each means with its end.
Tilaka is the mark on the brow, which is both prominent and auspicious. The poet says this person is such a mark for all three worlds.

For life today
Wealth, learning, thought and speech are what we might today call a life’s resources. The verse hints that they are worth less when kept for oneself alone.
A doctor who passes learning on to students does not lose it by giving, it grows. Yet all four meeting in one person is rare, so let us read this as a direction to aim at and not as a yardstick to judge people by.
