ನಿವೃತ್ತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರೊಬ್ಬರು ಪ್ರತಿ ಸಂಜೆ ಓಣಿಯ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಉಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಪಾಠ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಯಾರೂ ಕೇಳಿಲ್ಲ, ಯಾರೂ ಹಣ ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೂ ಅವರು ತಪ್ಪಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಏಕೆ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದರೆ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಉತ್ತರ ಸರಳ: ಅದು ಅವರ ಸ್ವಭಾವ. ಕವಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಚಂದ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಕುಮುದದ ಚಿತ್ರದಿಂದ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಕಿಂ (किं, kiṃ) = ಏನು, ಹೌದೇ (does)
ಚಂದ್ರಮಾಃ (चन्द्रमाः, candramāḥ) = ಚಂದ್ರ (the moon)
ಪ್ರತ್ಯುಪಕಾರಲಿಪ್ಸಯಾ (प्रत्युपकारलिप्सया, pratyupakāralipsayā) = ಪ್ರತಿ ಉಪಕಾರದ ಆಸೆಯಿಂದ (from a wish for a favour in return)
ಕರೋತಿ (करोति, karoti) = ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ (do)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಚಂದ್ರ ತನ್ನ ಕಿರಣಗಳಿಂದ ಕುಮುದವನ್ನು ಅರಳಿಸುವುದು ಪ್ರತಿಯಾಗಿ ಏನಾದರೂ ಪಡೆಯುವ ಆಸೆಯಿಂದಲೇ, ಎಂದು ಕೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ ಕವಿ. ಇಲ್ಲ. ಉನ್ನತ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಸಜ್ಜನರಿಗೆ ಪರೋಪಕಾರದ ಒಲವೇ ಸ್ವಭಾವ, ಅದೇ ಅವರ ಜೀವನ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Does the moon open the night lotus with its rays out of a wish for a favour in return. No. For the high-minded good, the passion for helping others is their very nature, it is their life itself.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ವ್ಯಸನ ಎಂದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ದುರಭ್ಯಾಸವೆಂದು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು. ಬಿಡಲಾರದ ತೀವ್ರ ಒಲವು ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ. ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಪದವನ್ನು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಅರ್ಥದಲ್ಲಿ ತರುವುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ತಿರುವು.

Vyasana should not be read here as a vice. It means a strong pull one cannot give up. Using a word of bad association in a good sense is the turn.

ಕುಮುದ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಅರಳುವ ಬಿಳಿಯ ನೈದಿಲೆ. ಚಂದ್ರನ ಕಿರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಗೋ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಿರಣ ಬಿದ್ದಾಗ ಹೂವು ಅರಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದು ಚಂದ್ರನ ಕೆಲಸ, ಬಿಲ್ಲಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದು ಚಿತ್ರದ ತಿರುಳು.

Kumuda is the white water lily that opens at night. The moon’s rays are called go here. The flower opens when the ray falls. It is the moon’s doing and not a bill raised, which is the heart of the image.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಕೊಟ್ಟದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಧನ್ಯವಾದ ಬರದಿದ್ದರೆ ಬೇಸರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಅದು ಸಹಜ. ಆದರೂ ನಾವು ಯಾವ ಉಪಕಾರವನ್ನು ಅದರ ಲೆಕ್ಕಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ನೋಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು.

It is natural to feel let down when a kindness goes unthanked. Still, we might check once which of our kindnesses we are doing for the sake of the account.

ಶಿಷ್ಯರು ಮುಂದೆ ಏನಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ವೈದ್ಯರು ಕಲಿಸುವಾಗ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಹಾಕುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಕಲಿಸುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ತೃಪ್ತಿ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಉಳಿದದ್ದು ಹೆಚ್ಚುವರಿ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು.

A physician does not tally what students will become while teaching. If there is contentment in the teaching itself, it is good to treat whatever else comes as extra.
