ಸಂಪತ್ಸು ಮಹತಾಂ ಚಿತ್ತಂ: ನೈದಿಲೆಯಂತೆ, ಬಂಡೆಯಂತೆ

ಬಡ್ತಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಮೇಲೆ ಗಡುಸಾಗುವವರನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಕಷ್ಟ ಬಂದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಸಿಯುವವರನ್ನೂ ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ತಿರುಗಿಸಿ ಇಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಂಪತ್ಸು ಮಹತಾಂ ಚಿತ್ತಂ ಭವತ್ಯುತ್ಪಲಕೋಮಲಮ್ ।
ಆಪತ್ಸು ಚ ಮಹಾಶೈಲಶಿಲಾಸಂಘಾತಕರ್ಕಶಮ್ ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)

संपत्सु महतां चित्तं भवत्युत्पलकोमलम् ।
आपत्सु च महाशैलशिलासंघातकर्कशम् ॥

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

saṃpatsu mahatāṃ cittaṃ bhavatyutpalakomalam |
āpatsu ca mahāśailaśilāsaṃghātakarkaśam ||

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಸಂಪತ್ಸು (संपत्सु, saṃpatsu) = ಸಂಪತ್ತಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ (in times of fortune)
ಮಹತಾಂ (महतां, mahatāṃ) = ದೊಡ್ಡವರ (of the great)
ಚಿತ್ತಂ (चित्तं, cittaṃ) = ಮನಸ್ಸು (the mind)
ಭವತಿ (भवति, bhavati) = ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ (becomes)
ಉತ್ಪಲ (उत्पल, utpala) = ನೈದಿಲೆಯಂತೆ (as a blue lotus)
ಕೋಮಲಮ್ (कोमलम्, komalam) = ಮೃದು (soft)
ಆಪತ್ಸು (आपत्सु, āpatsu) = ಆಪತ್ತಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ (in times of calamity)
ಚ (च, ca) = ಮತ್ತು (and)
ಮಹಾಶೈಲ (महाशैल, mahāśaila) = ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ (of a great mountain)
ಶಿಲಾ (शिला, śilā) = ಬಂಡೆಗಳ (of the rocks)
ಸಂಘಾತ (संघात, saṃghāta) = ರಾಶಿಯಷ್ಟು (as the mass)
ಕರ್ಕಶಮ್ (कर्कशम्, karkaśam) = ಗಟ್ಟಿ (hard)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಸಂಪತ್ತಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡವರ ಮನಸ್ಸು ನೈದಿಲೆಯಂತೆ ಮೃದುವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಪತ್ತಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದೇ ಮನಸ್ಸು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಬಂಡೆಗಳ ರಾಶಿಯಷ್ಟು ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

In times of fortune the mind of the great is soft as a blue lotus. In times of calamity that same mind is hard as the mass of rock on a great mountain.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಉತ್ಪಲ ಎಂದರೆ ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅರಳುವ ನೈದಿಲೆ. ಕೋಮಲ ಎಂಬ ಪದದ ಜೊತೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಮೃದುತ್ವ ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯವಲ್ಲ, ಅರಳಿಕೆ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

Utpala is the blue lotus that opens in water. Put beside komala, soft, it makes softness mean opening out rather than weakness.

ಮಹಾಶೈಲಶಿಲಾಸಂಘಾತ ಎಂಬುದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬೆಟ್ಟ, ಬಂಡೆ, ರಾಶಿ ಎಂಬ ಪದಗಳ ಜೋಡಣೆ. ಪದವೇ ಭಾರವಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಹೋಗುವುದೂ ಅರ್ಥಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಎದುರಿಗೆ ಉತ್ಪಲ ಎಂಬ ಎರಡಕ್ಷರದ ಹೂವು.

Mahashaila shila sanghata piles up great mountain, rock and mass. The word itself grows heavy, and that weight is part of the meaning. Against it stands utpala, a flower in three syllables.

ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯುವುದು ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ತಿರುಗು: ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಗಡುಸು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ, ಆಪತ್ತು ಕುಗ್ಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ದೊಡ್ಡವರಿಗೆ ಎರಡರಲ್ಲೂ ಒಂದೇ ರೂಪ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ರೂಪ ಹೇಳಿದೆ. ಆಶಯ ಒಂದೇ.

What usually happens is the reverse: fortune hardens and calamity shrinks. Another verse in this section says the great keep one form in both. Here two forms are named. The point is the same.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯುವಾಗ ಕಿರಿಯರ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿ ಕೊಡುವುದು, ಸಂಕಷ್ಟ ಬಂದಾಗ ಹೊಣೆಯನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ಹೊರುವುದು: ಆಡಳಿತದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಎರಡು ಸಾಲುಗಳ ಅರ್ಥ ಇಷ್ಟೇ.

Listening to juniors while the place is doing well, and carrying the blame yourself when it is not: in running anything, that is all these two lines mean.

ಎರಡು ಸಂದರ್ಭಕ್ಕೆ ಎರಡು ರೂಪ ಎಂದರೆ ಇಬ್ಬಗೆಯಲ್ಲ. ಮೃದುತ್ವ ಬೇಕಾದ ಕಡೆ ಮೃದು, ಗಟ್ಟಿತನ ಬೇಕಾದ ಕಡೆ ಗಟ್ಟಿ. ಆ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಒಂದೇ ಸ್ವಭಾವದಿಂದ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

Two forms for two occasions is not double dealing. Soft where softness is needed, hard where hardness is. The choice comes from one and the same nature.
