ಚೌಘಡಿಯಾ ಹಗಲನ್ನು ಎಂಟು ಪಾಲಾಗಿಯೂ ರಾತ್ರಿಯನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಎಂಟು ಪಾಲಾಗಿಯೂ ಒಡೆದು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದಕ್ಕೂ ಒಂದು ಹೆಸರು ಮತ್ತು ಒಂದು ಸ್ವಭಾವ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ದಿನನಿತ್ಯದ ಬಳಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕಾಲ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯ ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೇ ಅತಿ ಪ್ರಾಯೋಗಿಕ, ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಗುಜರಾತ್, ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ರಾಜಸ್ಥಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ; ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ “ಇವತ್ತು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಹೊತ್ತು ಯಾವುದು” ಎಂದು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವರು ನೋಡುವುದೂ ಇದನ್ನೇ.
ಈ ಹೆಸರು ಚೌ ಘಡಿಯಾ, ಅಂದರೆ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಘಳಿಗೆ ಎಂಬುದರಿಂದ ಬಂದದ್ದು; ಪ್ರತಿ ಪಾಲು ಹೆಚ್ಚುಕಡಿಮೆ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಎಂಟು ಹೆಸರುಗಳು
- ಅಮೃತ, ಸುಧೆ. ಎಲ್ಲದಕ್ಕೂ ಅನುಕೂಲ.
- ಶುಭ, ಮಂಗಳ. ಅನುಕೂಲ, ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಶುಭಕಾರ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಮದುವೆಗೆ.
- ಲಾಭ, ಗಳಿಕೆ. ಅನುಕೂಲ, ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಹೊಸ ಉದ್ಯಮಕ್ಕೆ.
- ಚಲ, ಚಲನೆ. ತಟಸ್ಥದಿಂದ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದರವರೆಗೆ, ಪ್ರಯಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಒಪ್ಪುವಂಥದ್ದು.
- ಉದ್ವೇಗ, ತಳಮಳ. ಅನನುಕೂಲ. ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆ; ಸರ್ಕಾರಿ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಇದು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಕೆಲವರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.
- ಕಾಲ, ಮೃತ್ಯು ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲ. ಅನನುಕೂಲ, ಆದರೆ ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಕೂಡಿಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಪ್ಪುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಎಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
- ರೋಗ, ಕಾಯಿಲೆ. ಅನನುಕೂಲ. ಎದುರಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಪ್ಪುತ್ತದೆ.
ಎಂಟು ಜಾಗಗಳನ್ನು ಏಳು ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ತುಂಬುತ್ತವೆ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಮೊದಲನೆಯದೇ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಕ್ರಮ ಹೇಗೆ ನಿರ್ಧಾರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ
ಅನುಕ್ರಮ ಒಂದು ನಿಶ್ಚಿತ ಸುತ್ತು, ಮತ್ತು ಅದು ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ವಾರವನ್ನು ಅವಲಂಬಿಸಿದೆ. ಭಾನುವಾರ ಹಗಲು ಉದ್ವೇಗದಿಂದ, ಸೋಮವಾರ ಅಮೃತದಿಂದ, ಮಂಗಳವಾರ ರೋಗದಿಂದ, ಬುಧವಾರ ಲಾಭದಿಂದ, ಗುರುವಾರ ಶುಭದಿಂದ, ಶುಕ್ರವಾರ ಚಲದಿಂದ ಮತ್ತು ಶನಿವಾರ ಕಾಲದಿಂದ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಅನುಕ್ರಮ ಅದೇ ಸುತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಐದು ಜಾಗ ಮುಂದೆ ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಇದು ಹೋರಾದ ತರ್ಕವೇ: ಮರುಕಳಿಸುವ ಗ್ರಹಗಳ ಕ್ರಮ, ಪ್ರತಿ ದಿನವೂ ಬೇರೊಂದು ಜಾಗದಿಂದ ಪ್ರವೇಶ. ಉದ್ವೇಗ ಸೂರ್ಯನದು, ಚಲ ಶುಕ್ರನದು, ಲಾಭ ಬುಧನದು, ಅಮೃತ ಚಂದ್ರನದು, ಕಾಲ ಶನಿಯದು, ಶುಭ ಗುರುವಿನದು ಮತ್ತು ರೋಗ ಮಂಗಳನದು. ಇದೇ ಕಾಲ್ಡಿಯನ್ ಕ್ರಮ ವಾರದ ದಿನಗಳ ಅನುಕ್ರಮವನ್ನೂ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಬಳಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ
ಚೌಘಡಿಯಾವನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ತಕ್ಷಣದ ಕೆಲಸಗಳಿಗೆ: ಯಾವಾಗ ಹೊರಡುವುದು, ಯಾವಾಗ ಫೋನ್ ಮಾಡುವುದು, ಸಣ್ಣ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಯಾವಾಗ ಶುರು ಮಾಡುವುದು. ಮದುವೆ ಅಥವಾ ಪೂರ್ಣ ಮುಹೂರ್ತ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಹಾಕುವ ಇತರ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಬಳಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದರ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆ ಇಷ್ಟು: ಬೇಗ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಒಂದೆರಡು ಗಂಟೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಬಳಸಬಹುದಾದ ಏನಾದರೂ ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಕಿರುವುದು ವಾರ ಮತ್ತು ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯ ಸೂರ್ಯಾಸ್ತದ ಹೊತ್ತು, ಅಷ್ಟೇ.
The choghadiya divides the daylight into eight parts and the night into eight more, and gives each a name and a character. It is the most practical of the time-selection systems in daily use, especially in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, and it is what most people are consulting when they check “a good time today” for something ordinary.
The name comes from chau ghadiya, four ghatis, which is roughly what each part comes to.
The eight names
- Amrita: nectar. Favourable for everything.
- Shubha: auspicious. Favourable, especially for ceremonies and weddings.
- Labha: gain. Favourable, especially for business and new ventures.
- Chala: moving. Neutral to good, particularly suited to travel.
- Udvega: agitation. Unfavourable. Governed by the sun; some hold it acceptable for government work.
- Kala: time, in the sense of death. Unfavourable, though considered acceptable for accumulating wealth.
- Roga: illness. Unfavourable. Acceptable for confronting an adversary.
Seven names fill eight slots because the first repeats at the end.
How the order is set
The sequence is a fixed rotation, and where it starts depends on the weekday. On Sunday the day begins with Udvega, on Monday with Amrita, on Tuesday with Roga, on Wednesday with Labha, on Thursday with Shubha, on Friday with Chala and on Saturday with Kala. The night sequence starts five places further along the same cycle.
This is the same logic as the hora: a repeating planetary order, entered at a different point each day. Udvega belongs to the sun, Chala to Venus, Labha to Mercury, Amrita to the moon, Kala to Saturn, Shubha to Jupiter and Roga to Mars, which is the Chaldean order that also produces the sequence of the weekdays.
In practice
Choghadiya is consulted for the ordinary and the immediate: when to set out, when to make a call, when to start a small piece of work. It is not normally used for weddings or other events where a full muhurta is calculated. Its appeal is that it is quick, it always gives you something usable within a couple of hours, and it needs only the weekday and the times of sunrise and sunset.
