ತುಲ್ಯಂ ಪರೋಪತಾಪಿತ್ವಂ: ಕೋಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಧು ಮತ್ತು ನೀಚ ಒಂದೇ

ಒಲೆಗೆ ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧದ ತುಂಡನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿದರೂ ಒಣ ಸೌದೆಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿದರೂ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಸುಡುವುದು ಒಂದೇ ರೀತಿ. ಕೈ ಇಟ್ಟರೆ ಎರಡಕ್ಕೂ ಚುರುಕು ತಟ್ಟುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದೇ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಕೋಪಕ್ಕೆ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಜ್ಜನರ ಹೊಗಳಿಕೆಯ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೊಂದು ಅಪರೂಪದ ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕ ಮಾತು.

तुल्यं परोपतापित्वं क्रुद्धयोः साधुनीचयोः
न दाहे ज्वलतोर्भिन्नं चन्दनेन्धनयोः क्वचित्

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

tulyaṃ paropatāpitvaṃ kruddhayoḥ sādhunīcayoḥ
na dāhe jvalatorbhinnaṃ candanendhanayoḥ kvacit

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ತುಲ್ಯಂ (तुल्यं, tulyaṃ) = ಸಮ (equal)
ಪರೋಪತಾಪಿತ್ವಂ (परोपतापित्वं, paropatāpitvaṃ) = ಇತರರಿಗೆ ತಾಪ ಕೊಡುವ ಗುಣ (the quality of tormenting others)
ಕ್ರುದ್ಧಯೋಃ (क्रुद्धयोः, kruddhayoḥ) = ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡ ಇಬ್ಬರಲ್ಲಿ (in the two who are angry)
ಸಾಧುನೀಚಯೋಃ (साधुनीचयोः, sādhunīcayoḥ) = ಸಾಧುವಿನಲ್ಲೂ ನೀಚನಲ್ಲೂ (in the good person and the low one)
ನ (न, na) = ಇಲ್ಲ (not)
ದಾಹೇ (दाहे, dāhe) = ಸುಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ (in the burning)
ಜ್ವಲತೋರ್ಭಿನ್ನಂ (ज्वलतोर्भिन्नं, jvalatorbhinnaṃ) = ಉರಿಯುವ ಎರಡರ ನಡುವೆ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸ (a difference between the two that burn)
ಚಂದನೇಂಧನಯೋಃ (चन्दनेन्धनयोः, candanendhanayoḥ) = ಚಂದನ ಮತ್ತು ಸೌದೆಯ (of sandal and firewood)
ಕ್ವಚಿತ್ (क्वचित्, kvacit) = ಎಲ್ಲಿಯೂ (anywhere)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡ ಸಾಧುವಿನಲ್ಲೂ ನೀಚನಲ್ಲೂ ಇತರರಿಗೆ ನೋವು ಕೊಡುವ ಗುಣ ಸಮ. ಚಂದನವೂ ಸೌದೆಯೂ ಉರಿಯುವಾಗ ಸುಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವಿಲ್ಲ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

In a good person who is angry and in a low one, the power to hurt others is equal. When sandal and firewood burn, there is nowhere any difference in the burning.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಪರೋಪತಾಪಿತ್ವ ಎಂದರೆ ಪರರಿಗೆ ತಾಪ ಉಂಟುಮಾಡುವ ಗುಣ. ಉಪಕಾರದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಪದ ಇದು. ಉಪಕಾರ ಎಂದರೆ ಪರರಿಗೆ ಒಳಿತು, ಇದು ಪರರಿಗೆ ಬೇಗೆ.

Paropatapitva means the quality of causing others to burn. It stands against upakara, doing good to others.

ಇದರ ಚುರುಕು ಚಂದನದ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಚಂದನ ತಂಪು ಮತ್ತು ಸುವಾಸನೆಗೆ ಹೆಸರಾದದ್ದು, ಆದರೂ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಹತ್ತಿದರೆ ಅದೂ ಸುಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೋಪ ಬಂದರೆ ಸಜ್ಜನನ ಬಿರುದು ರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

The sting is in the choice of sandal. It is known for coolness and fragrance, yet it burns once it catches fire. When anger comes, the title of a good person gives no shelter.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಬೋಧನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಇದನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಡಬಹುದು. ಕೋಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಷ್ಟೇ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಆಡಿದ ಮಾತಾದರೂ ಕೇಳುವವನಿಗೆ ನೋವು ಒಂದೇ ಬಗೆಯದು.

Seniors who teach can keep this in mind. A word spoken in anger, however good the intention, hurts the listener in the same way.

ಕೋಪ ಬೇಡ ಎಂಬ ಉಪದೇಶ ಇಲ್ಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಕೋಪದ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಜ್ಜನ ಎಂಬ ಬಿರುದನ್ನು ನಂಬಿ ನಿಶ್ಚಿಂತೆಯಾಗಿರಬೇಡಿ ಎಂಬ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆ ಇದೆ.

There is no sermon against anger here. There is a warning not to rest easy on the title of a good person at the moment of anger.
