Seeing a good man flourish, the low man hates him again and again. It is as when Rahu makes a morsel of the moon, resting calm in the sky.
About this subhashita
Rahu is the eclipse demon of old Indian astronomy and myth. The old account said that his swallowing the moon causes a lunar eclipse. Vidhumtuda means the one who torments the vidhu, the moon.
The central point of the image is that the moon has done nothing to anyone and sits at ease in the sky. The cause of the hatred is not the good man’s fault but his flourishing.

For life today
The verse seems to ask whether we are able to congratulate a colleague who has risen. Envy rises at times in us as well.
When hatred toward someone arises, asking ourselves whether it is due to their fault or to their success is a good test.
