About this subhashita
Satpatra means a good vessel or a worthy person. The dog fouls a vessel with its tongue, the slanderer fouls a good man’s name with his. One word carries both meanings.
The words pishuna and shuna stand side by side at the end of the verse. The likeness of sound itself supports the comparison.

For life today
The tongue of a tale bearer does not care whose vessel it fouls. One man’s words can spoil the name of a whole group, so it helps to pause before passing on what one has heard.
We need not take the verse as written to run down the dog. The target of the comparison is a human habit and not the animal.
