ಪರಮರ್ಮಘಟ್ಟನಾದಿಷು ಖಲಸ್ಯ: ಕೌಶಲ ಇರುವುದು ಯಾವುದರಲ್ಲಿ

ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಪಾಠಿಯ ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯವನ್ನು ಥಟ್ಟನೆ ಕಂಡುಹಿಡಿದು ಚುಚ್ಚುವ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ಇರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಅದೇ ಚುರುಕು ಅವನ ತನ್ನ ಪಾಠದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಈ ಮಾತನ್ನು ವಿಷದ ಉದಾಹರಣೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ಆರ್ಯಾ ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿನ ಎರಡು ಸಾಲಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕ.

परमर्मघट्टनादिषु खलस्य यत्कौशलं न तत्कृत्ये
यत्सामर्थ्यमुपहतौ विषस्य तन्नोपकाराय

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಪರಮರ್ಮಘಟ್ಟನಾದಿಷು (परमर्मघट्टनादिषु, paramarmaghaṭṭanādiṣu) = ಇತರರ ಮರ್ಮಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ತಟ್ಟುವುದು ಮೊದಲಾದವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ (in pressing on the sore spots of others and the like)
ಖಲಸ್ಯ (खलस्य, khalasya) = ದುಷ್ಟನ (of the crooked one)
ಯತ್ಕೌಶಲಂ (यत्कौशलं, yatkauśalaṃ) = ಯಾವ ಚಾತುರ್ಯ ಇದೆಯೋ (the skill that there is)
ನ (न, na) = ಅಲ್ಲ (not)
ತತ್ಕೃತ್ಯೇ (तत्कृत्ये, tatkṛtye) = ಅದು ಕರ್ತವ್ಯದ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ (that in a task of duty)
ಯತ್ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯಮುಪಹತೌ (यत्सामर्थ्यमुपहतौ, yatsāmarthyamupahatau) = ಯಾವ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಇದೆಯೋ ಹಾನಿ ಮಾಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ (the power that lies in harming)
ವಿಷಸ್ಯ (विषस्य, viṣasya) = ವಿಷದ (of poison)
ತನ್ನೋಪಕಾರಾಯ (तन्नोपकाराय, tannopakārāya) = ಅದು ಉಪಕಾರಕ್ಕಲ್ಲ (that is not for helping)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ದುಷ್ಟನಿಗೆ ಇತರರ ಮರ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ತಟ್ಟುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಚಾತುರ್ಯ ತನ್ನ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯದ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ವಿಷಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾನಿ ಮಾಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಉಪಕಾರ ಮಾಡುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The skill a crooked man shows in pressing on the sore spots of others is not found in his own proper work. The power poison has to harm is not a power to help.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಮರ್ಮ ಎಂದರೆ ಮುಟ್ಟಿದರೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ನೋವಾಗುವ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ ಸ್ಥಳ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಅದು ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ದುರ್ಬಲ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೂ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಘಟ್ಟನ ಎಂದರೆ ತಟ್ಟುವುದು ಅಥವಾ ಒತ್ತುವುದು.

Marma is a delicate spot that hurts most when touched. Here it applies to the tender places of the mind as well. Ghattana means striking or pressing.

ಎರಡು ಸಾಲುಗಳೂ ಒಂದೇ ಸಮಾನಾಂತರ ರಚನೆಯಲ್ಲಿವೆ. ಯತ್ ಎಂದು ಆರಂಭವಾಗುವ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ತತ್ ಎಂದು ಉತ್ತರ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಷದ ಚಿತ್ರ ಕೌಶಲವೂ ಶಕ್ತಿಯೂ ತಪ್ಪು ದಿಕ್ಕಿಗೆ ಹರಿದರೆ ಏನಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

Both lines share one parallel build: a clause opening with yat is answered by tat. The image of poison shows what happens when skill and strength flow in the wrong direction.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ವೈದ್ಯನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಚಾಕು ಗುಣಪಡಿಸಲು ಬಳಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೌಶಲ ಎಷ್ಟಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಅದು ಯಾರ ಹಿತಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಮುಖ್ಯ.

In a physician’s hand the knife is used to heal. What matters is less how much skill there is than whose good it works for.

ಇತರರ ತಪ್ಪು ಹುಡುಕುವ ಚುರುಕನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸ ತಿದ್ದುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸಿದರೆ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಉಪಕಾರವಾದೀತು.

If the quickness spent on finding fault in others were used to correct one’s own work, a good deal of help would come of it.
