ಮಧುರಿಮರುಚಿರಂ ವಚಃ ಖಲಾನಾಂ: ಮೊದಲು ಅಮೃತ, ಆಮೇಲೆ ವಿಷ

ಫೋನಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಕೆಲವು ಕರೆಗಳು ಬಹಳ ಸೌಜನ್ಯದಿಂದ ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತವೆ. ಕೆಲವು ನಿಮಿಷ ಕಳೆದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಾತಿನ ನಿಜವಾದ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಹೊರಬೀಳುತ್ತದೆ.

ದುರ್ಜನರ ಮಾತಿನ ಈ ಎರಡು ಹಂತಗಳನ್ನು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಒಂದು ಉಸಿರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಿಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಮಧುರಿಮರುಚಿರಂ (मधुरिमरुचिरं, madhurimaruciraṃ) = ಸಿಹಿಯ ಸೊಬಗಿನಿಂದ ಮನೋಹರವಾದ (charming with sweetness)
ವಚಃ (वचः, vacaḥ) = ಮಾತು (speech)
ಖಲಾನಾಮಮೃತಮಹೋ (खलानाममृतमहो, khalānāmamṛtamaho) = ಖಲರ, ಅಮೃತ, ಆಹಾ (of the wicked, nectar, ah)
ಪ್ರಥಮಂ (प्रथमं, prathamaṃ) = ಮೊದಲು (at first)
ಪೃಥು (पृथु, pṛthu) = ವಿಸ್ತಾರವಾಗಿ (amply)
ವ್ಯನಕ್ತಿ (व्यनक्ति, vyanakti) = ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ (shows)
ಅಥ (अथ, atha) = ಅನಂತರ (then)
ಕಥಯತಿ (कथयति, kathayati) = ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ (tells)
ಮೋಹಹೇತುಮಂತರ್ಗತಮಿವ (मोहहेतुमन्तर्गतमिव, mohahetumantargatamiva) = ಮೋಹಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವಾದ, ಒಳಗಿರುವಂತೆ (the cause of bewilderment, as if lying within)
ಹಾಲಾಹಲಂ (हालाहलं, hālāhalaṃ) = ಹಾಲಾಹಲ (Halahala)
ವಿಷಂ (विषं, viṣaṃ) = ವಿಷ (poison)
ತದೇವ (तदेव, tadeva) = ಅದೇ (that very)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಖಲರ ಮಾತು ಸಿಹಿಯ ಸೊಬಗಿನಿಂದ ಮನೋಹರವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಹಾ, ಮೊದಲು ಅದು ವಿಸ್ತಾರವಾಗಿ ಅಮೃತವನ್ನೇ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಅನಂತರ ಅದೇ ಮಾತು ಒಳಗಿದ್ದ ಹಾಲಾಹಲ ವಿಷವನ್ನು, ಮೋಹಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವನ್ನು, ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The speech of the wicked is charming with sweetness. Ah, at first it shows itself amply as nectar. Then that same speech tells of the Halahala poison that lay within, the cause of the bewilderment.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಮಧುರಿಮ ಎಂದರೆ ಮಧುರತೆ, ಸಿಹಿಯ ಗುಣ. ಮೊದಲ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಸಿಹಿ, ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಾಲು ತಿರುಗುವಾಗ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ರುಚಿಯೂ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Madhurima means the quality of sweetness. The first line is all sweetness, and when the second line turns, the taste of the verse turns with it.

ಹಾಲಾಹಲವನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಉಪಮೆಯಾಗಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬಳಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಮೋಹಹೇತು ಎಂದರೆ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನು ಮಂಕಾಗಿಸುವ ಕಾರಣ, ಅಂದರೆ ಸಿಹಿಮಾತಿಗೆ ಮರುಳಾಗುವುದು.

Halahala is used here only as an image. Mohahetu means the cause that dulls the mind, which is to be taken in by sweet talk.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಆರಂಭದ ಸೌಜನ್ಯ ಒಂದು ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಮಾತ್ರ, ಪುರಾವೆಯಲ್ಲ. ಮಾತು ಮುಗಿಯುವ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಏನು ಕೇಳಲಾಯಿತು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು.

Early courtesy is a piece of information, not proof. It is enough to see what was finally asked for when the talk ended.

ಎಲ್ಲ ಸಿಹಿಮಾತೂ ಸಂಶಯಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಲ್ಲ. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮಾತಿಗೂ ಸಿಹಿ ಇರಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ಅದರ ಕೊನೆಯ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸ.

Not every sweet word deserves suspicion. Good speech can be sweet too, but understanding its final request is our task.
