ಅಪೂರ್ವಃ ಕೋಽಪಿ ಕೋಪಾಗ್ನಿಃ: ಸಜ್ಜನ ಮತ್ತು ಖಲನ ಸಿಟ್ಟು

ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಟ್ಟಿನ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರು ಏನು ಹೇಳಿದರೆ ತಣಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಮನೆಯವರಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತು. ಕೆಲವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಲೋಟ ನೀರು ಸಾಕು, ಕೆಲವರಿಗೆ ಏನು ಹೇಳಿದರೂ ಉರಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ಎರಡು ರೀತಿಯ ಸಿಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿನ ಎರಡು ಸಾಲುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎದುರು ಬದುರು ಇಡುತ್ತದೆ.

अपूर्वः कोऽपि कोपाग्निः सज्जनस्य खलस्य च
एकस्य शाम्यति स्नेहाद्वर्धतेऽन्यस्य वारितः

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

apūrvaḥ ko’pi kopāgniḥ sajjanasya khalasya ca
ekasya śāmyati snehādvardhate’nyasya vāritaḥ

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಅಪೂರ್ವಃ (अपूर्वः, apūrvaḥ) = ಅಪೂರ್ವ (unlike any other)
ಕೋಽಪಿ (कोऽपि, ko’pi) = ಒಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ (a certain)
ಕೋಪಾಗ್ನಿಃ (कोपाग्निः, kopāgniḥ) = ಕೋಪದ ಬೆಂಕಿ (fire of anger)
ಸಜ್ಜನಸ್ಯ (सज्जनस्य, sajjanasya) = ಸಜ್ಜನನ (of the good man)
ಖಲಸ್ಯ (खलस्य, khalasya) = ಖಲನ (of the crooked man)
ಚ (च, ca) = ಮತ್ತು (and)
ಏಕಸ್ಯ (एकस्य, ekasya) = ಒಬ್ಬನ (of the one)
ಶಾಮ್ಯತಿ (शाम्यति, śāmyati) = ಶಾಂತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ (is quenched)
ಸ್ನೇಹಾದ್ವರ್ಧತೇಽನ್ಯಸ್ಯ (स्नेहाद्वर्धतेऽन्यस्य, snehādvardhate’nyasya) = ಸ್ನೇಹದಿಂದ, ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬನ ಸಿಟ್ಟು ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ (by affection, and of the other it grows)
ವಾರಿತಃ (वारितः, vāritaḥ) = ತಡೆದರೆ (when checked)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಸಜ್ಜನನ ಮತ್ತು ಖಲನ ಕೋಪದ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಒಂದು ಅಪೂರ್ವ ವಿಧದ್ದು. ಒಬ್ಬನ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಸ್ನೇಹದಿಂದ ಶಾಂತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬನದು ತಡೆದರೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The fire of anger in the good man and in the crooked man is of an unusual kind. In the one it is quenched by affection. In the other it grows when checked.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಸ್ನೇಹ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥವೂ ಇದೆ. ಬೆಂಕಿಯ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಅರ್ಥ ಓದುಗನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಾನಾಗಿ ಮೂಡುತ್ತದೆ.

The word sneha means affection and also oil. In an image of fire, that second sense rises in the reader’s mind unasked.

ವಾರಿತ ಎಂದರೆ ತಡೆದದ್ದು ಅಥವಾ ಅಡ್ಡಿ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು. ತಡೆದಷ್ಟೂ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಸಿಟ್ಟು ಖಲನದು. ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಯಾರ ಮೂಲ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ನಾವೂ ಯಾವ ಮೂಲವನ್ನೂ ಹೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

Varita means checked or obstructed. The crooked man’s anger grows the more it is checked. The verse names no source, and we claim none.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಸಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವವರ ಜೊತೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುವಾಗ ಯಾವ ಬೆಂಕಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಇದೆ ಎಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸುವುದು ಮೊದಲ ಕೆಲಸ. ಅದು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತೀರ್ಮಾನ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಆ ಕ್ಷಣದ ಗುರುತು ಮಾತ್ರ.

When talking to someone in anger, the first task is to see which fire is before you. That is not a verdict on the person, only a reading of the moment.

ರೋಗಿಯ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡಾಗ ಶಾಂತ ದನಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ವಿವರಣೆ ಕೆಲವರಿಗೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಅಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ.

When a patient’s family is angry, a calm voice and a kind explanation work for some. The verse concedes they do not work for all.
