Many go about carrying hairy human heads fastened to their necks. But is there anything in their minds that has an ear?
About this subhashita
Sakarnaka means having an ear. In Sanskrit akarna is used both for the deaf man and for the man who has heard nothing worth hearing. Moving the ear from the head to the mind is the turn of this verse.
The word lomasha, hairy, looks like a wasted word. It is not. It turns the head into a hairy load, a thing tied on at the neck.

For life today
Ten people standing at a ward round does not mean ten people took it in. One question finds that out.
It is easy to turn this verse at other people. Counting how much of what we heard today actually went in is of more use.
