ಹೊಸ ಗೆಳೆತನ ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಸಿಹಿಯಾಗಿಯೇ ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದು ಹೇಗೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಕೆಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ನಂತರವೇ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಆರ್ಯಾ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಗೆಳೆತನವನ್ನು ಆರಂಭ, ನಡು, ಕೊನೆ ಎಂದು ಮೂರು ಹಂತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡು ದುಷ್ಟರ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಧುಗಳ ಮೈತ್ರಿಯನ್ನು ಬೇರೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಖಲಸಖ್ಯಂ (खलसख्यं, khalasakhyaṃ) = ದುಷ್ಟರ ಗೆಳೆತನ (friendship with the wicked)
ಪ್ರಾಙ್ಮಧುರಂ (प्राङ्मधुरं, prāṅmadhuraṃ) = ಮೊದಲಲ್ಲಿ ಮಧುರ (sweet at the beginning)
ನಯೋಽಂತರಾಲೇ (नयोऽन्तराले, nayo’ntarāle) = ನಡುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಯ (ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಪಾಠದ ಅರ್ಥ ಖಚಿತವಿಲ್ಲ) (in the middle, naya (the sense of this reading is not certain))
ನಿದಾಘದಿನಮಂತೇ (निदाघदिनमन्ते, nidāghadinamante) = ಬೇಸಿಗೆಯ ದಿನದ ಕೊನೆಗೆ (at the end of a summer day)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ದುಷ್ಟರ ಗೆಳೆತನ ಮೊದಲಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಮಧುರ. ನಡುವಿನ ಭಾಗವನ್ನು ಬೇಸಿಗೆಯ ದಿನದ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿ ಹೇಳಿದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಆ ಪಾಠದ ಅರ್ಥ ನಮಗೆ ಖಚಿತವಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಾಧುಜನರ ಮೈತ್ರಿ ಆದಿಯಿಂದ ಮಧ್ಯದ ಮೂಲಕ ಕೊನೆಯ ಫಲದವರೆಗೂ ರಮಣೀಯ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Friendship with the wicked is sweet only at the beginning. The middle part is compared to the end of a summer day, but we are not certain of the sense of that reading. The friendship of good people is pleasing from the first, through the middle, to the outcome.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ನಡುವಿನ ಸಾಲಿನ ಪಾಠ ನಮಗೆ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಬಲ್ಲ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

The reading of the middle of this verse does not construe clearly for us. So we have kept to the part whose sense we can state with confidence.

ಏಕಾದಿ ಮಧ್ಯ ಪರಿಣತಿ ಎಂಬ ಮೂರು ಪದಗಳು ಆರಂಭ, ನಡು, ಫಲ ಎಂಬ ಮೂರು ಹಂತಗಳನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂದು ತೋರುತ್ತದೆ. ದುಷ್ಟರ ಮೈತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಹಂತ ಮಾತ್ರ ಸಿಹಿ.

The words ekadi, madhya and parinati seem to point to three stages: beginning, middle, outcome. In the friendship of the wicked, only the first stage is sweet.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಹೊಸ ಸಹೋದ್ಯೋಗಿ ಮೊದಲ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವನಂತೆ ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಕಷ್ಟದ ದಿನ ಬಂದಾಗಲೇ ಗೆಳೆತನ ಯಾವ ಹಂತಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂತು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.

A new colleague may seem very good in the first month. It is only on a hard day that one learns what stage the friendship has reached.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಗೆಳೆಯರನ್ನು ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಮಯ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ನೋಡಿ ಎಂದು ಮಾತ್ರ ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

The verse is not telling us to test our friends. It only suggests giving the friendship time.
