ಇಡೀ ವಾರ್ಡಿನ ರೋಗಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ದಾದಿ ತನ್ನದೇ ಜ್ವರವನ್ನು ಕೊನೆಯ ತನಕ ಮುಂದೂಡುವುದು ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸದಲ್ಲ. ಇತರರ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿದವರಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸ ನೆನಪೇ ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದೇ ಸ್ವಭಾವವನ್ನು ಚಂದ್ರನ ಕಳಂಕದ ಚಿತ್ರದಿಂದ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿನ ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ಹೆಸರು ಖಚಿತವಿಲ್ಲ, ಪ್ರತಿ ಸಾಲಿಗೆ ಸುಮಾರು 30 ಅಕ್ಷರ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಧವಲಯತಿ (धवलयति, dhavalayati) = ಬೆಳ್ಳಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ (whitens)
- ಸಮಗ್ರಂ (समग्रं, samagraṃ) = ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ (the whole)
- ಚಂದ್ರಮಾ (चन्द्रमा, candramā) = ಚಂದ್ರ (the moon)
- ಜೀವಲೋಕಂ (जीवलोकं, jīvalokaṃ) = ಜೀವಲೋಕವನ್ನು (the world of living beings)
- ಕಿಮಿತಿ (किमिति, kimiti) = ಏಕೆ ತಾನೆ (why)
- ನಿಜಕಲಂಕಂ (निजकलङ्कं, nijakalaṅkaṃ) = ತನ್ನ ಕಳಂಕವನ್ನು (his own stain)
- ನಾತ್ಮಸಂಸ್ಥಂ (नात्मसंस्थं, nātmasaṃsthaṃ) = ತನ್ನಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವುದನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲ (not the one seated in himself)
- ಪ್ರಮಾರ್ಷ್ಟಿ (प्रमार्ष्टि, pramārṣṭi) = ಒರೆಸುತ್ತಾನೆ (wipe away)
- ಭವತಿ (भवति, bhavati) = ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ (it is)
- ವಿದಿತಮೇತತ್ಪ್ರಾಯಶಃ (विदितमेतत्प्रायशः, viditametatprāyaśaḥ) = ಇದು ಬಹಳಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿದದ್ದು (this is mostly known)
- ಸಜ್ಜನಾನಾಂ (सज्जनानां, sajjanānāṃ) = ಸಜ್ಜನರಿಗೆ (for good people)
- ಪರಹಿತನಿರತಾನಾಮಾದರೋ (परहितनिरतानामादरो, parahitaniratānāmādaro) = ಪರರ ಹಿತದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿದವರ ಆದರ (the regard of those devoted to others’ good)
- ನಾತ್ಮಕಾರ್ಯೇ (नात्मकार्ये, nātmakārye) = ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲ (not in their own affairs)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಚಂದ್ರ ಇಡೀ ಜೀವಲೋಕವನ್ನು ಬೆಳ್ಳಗೆ ಬೆಳಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆದರೆ ತನ್ನಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವ ಕಳಂಕವನ್ನು ಏಕೆ ಒರೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಪರರ ಹಿತದಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿದ ಸಜ್ಜನರಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸದ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಹಳಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಆದರ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಇದು ತಿಳಿದ ಸಂಗತಿಯೇ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
The moon whitens the entire world of living beings, yet why does he not wipe off the stain he carries in himself? It is a well known thing that good people, busy with the good of others, mostly have little regard for their own affairs.
ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita
ಚಂದ್ರನ ಕಳಂಕ ಎಂದರೆ ಅವನ ಮೇಲಿನ ಕಪ್ಪು ಮಚ್ಚೆ. ಲೋಕವನ್ನು ಬೆಳಗಿಸುವವನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಮಚ್ಚೆ ಹೋಗಿಸಲು ಸಮಯವಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬ ಸಲ್ಲಾಪ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
The moon’s stain is the dark patch on him. The conceit is that one busy lighting the world has no time to clear his own patch.
ಪ್ರಾಯಶಃ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಮುಖ್ಯ. ಇದು ಎಲ್ಲ ಸಜ್ಜನರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟುನಿಟ್ಟಿನ ಹೇಳಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲ, ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಹೀಗೆ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಮೃದು ಮಾತು.
The word prayashah matters. It is not a rigid claim about all good people, only a soft remark that this is mostly how it goes.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಇತರರ ಸೇವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿದವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ, ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ, ಕುಟುಂಬವನ್ನು ಮುಂದೂಡುವುದನ್ನು ನಾವು ಕಂಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಇದನ್ನು ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತಿದೆಯೇ ಅಥವಾ ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆಯೇ ಎಂದು ಓದುಗ ಸ್ವತಃ ಯೋಚಿಸಬಹುದು.
We have seen those absorbed in serving others put off their own health, rest and family. The reader can think for himself whether the verse is praising this or only noting it.
ಚಂದ್ರನಿಗೂ ಕಳಂಕ ಇದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಒಂದು ಸಮಾಧಾನ. ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡುವವರು ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣರಲ್ಲ, ಅವರ ಕೊರತೆಗಳಿದ್ದರೂ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.
That even the moon has a stain is a comfort. Those who serve are not perfect, and their gift remains despite their flaws.
