ಜೈನ ಧರ್ಮದ 24ನೇ ತೀರ್ಥಂಕರರಾದ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಮಹಾವೀರರ ಜನ್ಮದಿನವೇ ಮಹಾವೀರ ಜಯಂತಿ. ಇದನ್ನು ಚೈತ್ರ ಶುಕ್ಲ ತ್ರಯೋದಶಿಯಂದು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಆಚರಿಸುವ ರೀತಿ
ಜೈನರು 24ನೇ ತೀರ್ಥಂಕರರಾದ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಮಹಾವೀರರ ಜನ್ಮವನ್ನು ಸಂಭ್ರಮದಿಂದ ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಬಸದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗೆ ಅಭಿಷೇಕ ಮಾಡಿ, ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಅಲಂಕೃತ ರಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಅವರ ಬೋಧನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಅನೇಕರು ಉಪವಾಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಬಡವರಿಗೆ ಅನ್ನ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹಾಯ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಕಥೆ
ಇಂದಿನ ಬಿಹಾರದ ವೈಶಾಲಿ ಸಮೀಪದ ಕುಂಡಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಿದ್ಧಾರ್ಥ ರಾಜ ಮತ್ತು ತ್ರಿಶಲಾ ದೇವಿಗೆ ಚೈತ್ರ ಶುಕ್ಲ ತ್ರಯೋದಶಿಯಂದು ವರ್ಧಮಾನ ಮಹಾವೀರರು ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಮೂವತ್ತನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆ ತೊರೆದ ಇವರು, ಹನ್ನೆರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಠಿಣ ತಪಸ್ಸಿನ ನಂತರ ಕೇವಲ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದರು. ಪಾವಾಪುರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ವಾಣ ಹೊಂದುವವರೆಗೆ ಅಹಿಂಸೆ, ಸತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಅಪರಿಗ್ರಹಗಳನ್ನು ಬೋಧಿಸಿದರು; ಅವರ ನಿರ್ವಾಣವನ್ನು ಜೈನರು ದೀಪಾವಳಿಯಂದು ಸ್ಮರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಅನುದಿನ ಕೊಡುವ ದಿನ
ಚೈತ್ರ ಮಾಸದ ಶುಕ್ಲ ಪಕ್ಷದ 13ನೇ ತಿಥಿಯಾದ ಚೈತ್ರ ಶುಕ್ಲ ತ್ರಯೋದಶಿಯು ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯದ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ಇರುವ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಅನುದಿನ ಆ್ಯಪ್ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಯಾವುದೇ ದಿನ ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಈ ತಿಥಿ ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ, ಅದು ಶುರುವಾಗುವ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಅನುದಿನ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಸಾಲು ಎರಡೂ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಇದನ್ನು ಭಾರತದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಆಚರಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ, ಅನುದಿನ ಇದನ್ನು ಎರಡೂ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಈ ನಿಯಮವನ್ನು 2023ರ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 4, 2024ರ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 21, 2025ರ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 10 (ಭಾರತ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಪಟ್ಟಿ; 2025ರ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಪಟ್ಟಿ) ಮತ್ತು 2026ರ ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 31ರ ದಿನಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ (ಭಾರತ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಪಟ್ಟಿ) ಹೋಲಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. 2027ರ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ದಿನಾಂಕ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 18 (ಒಂಟಿಕೊಪ್ಪಲ್ ಪಂಚಾಂಗ ಮತ್ತು ಮೈಸೂರಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ Drik Panchang) ಹಾಗೂ ದೆಹಲಿಯ ದಿನಾಂಕ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 19 ಆಗಿದೆ (ಭಾರತ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಪಟ್ಟಿ, Drik Panchang). ಆಯಾ ಸ್ಥಳದ ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯಕ್ಕೆ ನಿಯಮವನ್ನು ಅನ್ವಯಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಈ ಎರಡು ಸ್ಥಳಗಳ ದಿನಾಂಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Jains celebrate the birth of Bhagavan Mahavira, the twenty-fourth Tirthankara. Basadis and temples hold abhisheka of his image and take it out in procession, often in a decorated chariot. The day is kept with prayer, the reading of his teachings, fasting by many, and gifts of food and help to those in need.
The story
Vardhamana Mahavira was born to King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala at Kundagrama, near Vaishali in present day Bihar, on the thirteenth day of the bright half of Chaitra. He left home at thirty, attained kevala jnana after twelve years of austerity, and taught non-violence, truth and non-possession until his nirvana at Pavapuri, which Jains remember at Deepavali.

Anudina gives the day on which Chaitra shukla trayodashi, the thirteenth tithi of the bright fortnight of Chaitra, is running at sunrise. When it is not running at sunrise on any day, the day on which it begins is taken. The row is shown under both customs.

The rule was compared with 4 April 2023, 21 April 2024, 10 April 2025 (Government of India list; the Karnataka list for 2025) and 31 March 2026 (Government of India list). For 2027 the Mysuru day is 18 April (the Ontikoppal panchanga and Drik Panchang for Mysore) and the Delhi day is 19 April (Government of India list, Drik Panchang). The two places differ because the rule is applied at each place’s own sunrise.
