ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಬಿದ್ದರೂ ಮೊದಲು ಬಂದು ನಿಲ್ಲುವ ಒಬ್ಬರು ಇರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ರೀತಿಯೂ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಮೃದುವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅಂಥವರ ಮಾತು, ಮನಸ್ಸು ಮತ್ತು ಕೀರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಮೂರು ಉಪಮೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಂದೇ ವಾಕ್ಯ ಮೂರು ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಒಂದರ ಹಿಂದೆ ಒಂದರಂತೆ ಇಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಅವಿರತಂ (अविरतं, avirataṃ) = ಎಡೆಬಿಡದೆ (without a break)
ಪರಕಾರ್ಯಕೃತಾಂ (परकार्यकृतां, parakāryakṛtāṃ) = ಪರರ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವವರ (of those who do the work of others)
ಸತಾಂ (सतां, satāṃ) = ಸಜ್ಜನರ (of the good)
ಮಧುರಿಮಾತಿಶಯೇನ (मधुरिमातिशयेन, madhurimātiśayena) = ಮಾಧುರ್ಯದ ಅತಿಶಯದಿಂದ (through excess of sweetness)
ವಚೋಽಮೃತಮ್ (वचोऽमृतम्, vaco’mṛtam) = ಮಾತು ಅಮೃತ (speech is nectar)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಎಡೆಬಿಡದೆ ಪರರ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಸಜ್ಜನರ ಮಾತು ಅತಿಶಯ ಮಾಧುರ್ಯದಿಂದ ಅಮೃತವಾಗಿದೆ. ಅವರ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಸಾಗರ. ಅವರ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಶರದೃತುವಿನ ನಿರ್ಮಲ ಹುಣ್ಣಿಮೆಯ ಬೆಳದಿಂಗಳು.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

For the good, who work for others without a break, speech is nectar through its sheer sweetness. The mind is an ocean. And fame is the moonlight of a spotless autumn full moon.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಪಾರ್ವಣ ಚಂದ್ರಿಕೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಹುಣ್ಣಿಮೆಯ ಬೆಳದಿಂಗಳು. ಶರದೃತುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಆಕಾಶ ಮೋಡವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ತಿಳಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅದು ಕೀರ್ತಿಯ ನಿರ್ಮಲತೆಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯಾಗಿದೆ.

Parvana chandrika is the light of the full moon. In autumn the sky is clear of cloud, so it stands for the stainlessness of fame.

ಅಂಬುನಿಧಿ ಎಂದರೆ ನೀರಿನ ನಿಧಿ, ಅಂದರೆ ಸಾಗರ. ಸಾಗರದ ಆಳ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಸ್ತಾರದ ಹೋಲಿಕೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಅಳತೆ ಸಿಗದಿರುವಿಕೆಗೆ ಬಂದಿದೆ.

Ambunidhi means a treasury of water, the ocean. The depth and breadth of the sea is borrowed here for a mind whose measure cannot be taken.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಸುದ್ದಿಯನ್ನು ರೋಗಿಯ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಹೇಳಬೇಕಾದ ಹೊತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತಿನ ಮೃದುತ್ವ ಎಷ್ಟು ಬೆಲೆಯುಳ್ಳದ್ದು ಎಂದು ವೈದ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತು. ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಹೇಳುವ ರೀತಿಯೂ ಸಹಾಯದ ಭಾಗ.

A doctor knows how much gentle speech is worth when bad news must be given to a patient’s family. Along with the help, the manner of speaking is part of the help.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಹುಡುಕಿ ಹೋದದ್ದಲ್ಲ. ಕೆಲಸದ ಫಲವಾಗಿ ತಾನಾಗಿ ಬಂದದ್ದು. ಹೆಸರಿಗಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಸೇವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸೇವೆಯಿಂದ ಬರುವ ಹೆಸರು ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ.

In this verse fame is not something chased. It arrives by itself as the fruit of the work. Service done for a name and a name that comes from service are different things.
