ದೋಷಾಕರೋಽಪಿ ಕುಟಿಲೋಽಪಿ: ಕಳಂಕಿತ ಚಂದ್ರ ಹರನ ಪ್ರಿಯ

ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತುಂಟತನ ಮಾಡುವ ಮೊಮ್ಮಗನನ್ನೇ ಅಜ್ಜಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಮುದ್ದಿಸುವುದನ್ನು ಕಂಡಿರಬಹುದು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಕೇಳುವವರಿಲ್ಲ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದೇ ಚಂದ್ರ, ಅದೇ ಶಿವ. ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಶಿವನು ಅವನನ್ನು ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಧರಿಸಿದ ಕಥೆ ಹೇಳಿದರೆ, ಇದು ಚಂದ್ರನ ದೋಷಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ಉದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಳೆಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ದೋಷಾಕರೋಽಪಿ (दोषाकरोऽपि, doṣākaro’pi) = ದೋಷಗಳ ಗಣಿಯಾದರೂ, ಅಥವಾ ರಾತ್ರಿಕರನಾದರೂ (though a mine of faults, or maker of night)
ಕುಟಿಲೋಽಪಿ (कुटिलोऽपि, kuṭilo’pi) = ವಕ್ರನಾದರೂ (though crooked)
ಕಲಂಕಿತೋಽಪಿ (कलङ्कितोऽपि, kalaṅkito’pi) = ಕಳಂಕ ಇದ್ದರೂ (though stained)
ಮಿತ್ರಾವಸಾನಸಮಯೇ (मित्रावसानसमये, mitrāvasānasamaye) = ಮಿತ್ರನ ಅಂತ್ಯದ ಹೊತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ (at the hour of his friend’s end)
ವಿಹಿತೋದಯೋಽಪಿ (विहितोदयोऽपि, vihitodayo’pi) = ಉದಯಿಸಿದರೂ (though he rises)
ಚಂದ್ರಸ್ತಥಾಪಿ (चन्द्रस्तथापि, candrastathāpi) = ಚಂದ್ರ ಆದರೂ (the moon, even so)
ಹರವಲ್ಲಭತಾಮುಪೈತಿ (हरवल्लभतामुपैति, haravallabhatāmupaiti) = ಹರನ ಪ್ರಿಯನ ಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ (attains the place of being dear to Hara, Shiva)
ನೈವಾಶ್ರಿತೇಷು (नैवाश्रितेषु, naivāśriteṣu) = ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಿದವರ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂದೂ ಇಲ್ಲ (never in regard to those who seek refuge)
ಮಹತಾಂ (महतां, mahatāṃ) = ಮಹಾತ್ಮರಿಗೆ (of the great)
ಗುಣದೋಷಶಂಕಾ (गुणदोषशङ्का, guṇadoṣaśaṅkā) = ಗುಣದೋಷಗಳ ಸಂಶಯ (doubt about merit or fault)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಚಂದ್ರ ದೋಷಗಳ ಗಣಿ, ವಕ್ರ, ಕಳಂಕಿತ, ಮಿತ್ರನು ಅಸ್ತಮಿಸುವ ಹೊತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉದಯಿಸುವವನು. ಆದರೂ ಅವನು ಹರನ ಪ್ರಿಯನ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ. ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಿದವರಲ್ಲಿ ಗುಣದೋಷದ ಸಂಶಯ ಮಹಾತ್ಮರಿಗೆ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The moon is a mine of faults, crooked, stained, and rises at the hour his friend sets. Even so he attains the place of one dear to Hara. The great never doubt the merit or fault of those who have taken refuge with them.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಪಾದದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಅಪಿ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಬರುವುದರಿಂದ ದೋಷಗಳು ಒಂದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದು ಪೇರಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಅಷ್ಟು ಪಟ್ಟಿಯ ನಂತರ ತಥಾಪಿ, ಆದರೂ, ಎಂಬ ತಿರುವು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬಲ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

The word api recurs through the opening pada, so the faults pile one upon another. After so long a list, the turn at tathapi, even so, lands harder.

ಹರವಲ್ಲಭ ಎಂದರೆ ಹರನಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಿಯನಾದವನು. ಕಳಂಕ ಎಂದರೆ ಕಲೆ. ಚಂದ್ರನ ಮೇಲಿನ ಕಲೆಯ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ದೋಷವಾಗಿ ಎಣಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

Haravallabha is one dear to Hara. Kalanka is a stain, and the old notion of the mark on the moon is counted here as one more fault.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಸರಿಪಡಿಸುವ ಮೊದಲು ಹತ್ತಿರ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು, ಇದು ಕಲಿಸುವವರಿಗೂ ಹೆತ್ತವರಿಗೂ ಹಳೆಯ ಪಾಠ. ಭರವಸೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಮಗು ತನ್ನ ತಪ್ಪುಗಳನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಗಮನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

To draw someone close before correcting them is an old lesson for teachers and parents. A child who has been given trust tends to notice his own faults more.

ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳುವುದರ ಅರ್ಥ ತಪ್ಪುಗಳಿಗೆ ಬೆಲೆ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದಲ್ಲ. ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಬೆಲೆ ದೋಷಗಳ ಲೆಕ್ಕಕ್ಕಿಂತ ದೊಡ್ಡದು ಎಂದಷ್ಟೇ.

This does not mean faults do not matter. It means only that the person is larger than the tally of faults.
