ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾಪಿ ದೃಶ್ಯತೇ ದೃಶ್ಯಂ: ಸಜ್ಜನರ ನಡತೆ ಹಳೆಯದಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ

ಒಂದೇ ಕತೆಯನ್ನು ಎರಡನೆಯ ಬಾರಿ ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಕುಗ್ಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಂದೇ ದೃಶ್ಯವನ್ನು ಮೂರನೆಯ ಬಾರಿ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಬೇಸರ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಆದರೆ ಕೆಲವರ ನಡತೆ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪವಾದ ಎಂದು ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದರ ಕೊನೆಯ ಪಾದದಲ್ಲಿ ಪುನರುಕ್ತತಾ ಎಂಬ ಪದವೇ ಮುಖ್ಯ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾಪಿ (दृष्ट्वापि, dṛṣṭvāpi) = ನೋಡಿದ ಮೇಲೂ (even after seeing)
ದೃಶ್ಯತೇ (दृश्यते, dṛśyate) = ನೋಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ (is seen)
ದೃಶ್ಯಂ (दृश्यं, dṛśyaṃ) = ದೃಶ್ಯವನ್ನು (the sight)
ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾಪಿ (श्रुत्वापि, śrutvāpi) = ಕೇಳಿದ ಮೇಲೂ (even after hearing)
ಶ್ರೂಯತೇ (श्रूयते, śrūyate) = ಕೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ (is heard)
ಪುನಃ (पुनः, punaḥ) = ಮತ್ತೆ (again)
ಸತ್ಯಂ (सत्यं, satyaṃ) = ನಿಜವಾಗಿ (truly)
ನ (न, na) = ಇಲ್ಲ (not)
ಸಾಧುವೃತ್ತಸ್ಯ (साधुवृत्तस्य, sādhuvṛttasya) = ಸಜ್ಜನರ ನಡತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ (in the conduct of the good)
ದೃಶ್ಯತೇ (दृश्यते, dṛśyate) = ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ (is seen)
ಪುನರುಕ್ತತಾ (पुनरुक्तता, punaruktatā) = ಪುನರುಕ್ತಿ, ಹೇಳಿದ್ದನ್ನೇ ಹೇಳುವುದು (repetitiousness)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ನೋಡಿದ ದೃಶ್ಯವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ನೋಡಬೇಕೆನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೇಳಿದ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಕೇಳಬೇಕೆನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ಸಜ್ಜನರ ನಡತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪುನರುಕ್ತಿ ಕಾಣುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The sight already seen is seen again, and what has been heard is heard again. Truly, no repetitiousness is found in the conduct of the good.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಪುನರುಕ್ತ ಎಂದರೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದನ್ನೇ ಮತ್ತೆ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು. ಅಲಂಕಾರಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೊಂದು ದೋಷ. ಸಜ್ಜನರ ನಡತೆ ಈ ದೋಷದಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತ ಎಂದು ಕವಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

Punarukta means said again, and in poetics it counts as a fault. The poet says the conduct of the good is free of that fault.

ಮೊದಲ ಎರಡು ಪಾದಗಳು ಒಂದೇ ಧಾಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದೃಶ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರವಣವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಆ ಪುನರಾವರ್ತನೆಯೇ ಕೊನೆಯ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಒತ್ತು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.

The first two quarters repeat in one rhythm the seeing and the hearing. That very repetition gives weight to the closing claim.

We keep learning something new from a good teacher’s way of working even after years of watching. For those who teach, this is a touchstone.

ಹಾಗೆಂದು ಯಾರ ನಡತೆಯೂ ಹಳತಾಗುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗದು. ಇದು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಆದರ್ಶ, ನಾವು ಹೋಗಿ ತಲುಪಬೇಕಾದ ಎತ್ತರ.

Still, we cannot say anyone’s conduct never goes stale. This is the ideal the verse draws, a height to climb towards.
