ಜಯಂತಿ ಜಿತಮತ್ಸರಾಃ: ಮತ್ಸರ ಗೆದ್ದ ಸಾಧುಗಳು

ನಮ್ಮ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಮನಸಾರೆ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುವವರು ಬಹಳ ಕಡಿಮೆ. ಹಾಗೆ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುವ ಒಬ್ಬ ನೆರೆಯವನೋ ಸಹೋದ್ಯೋಗಿಯೋ ಇದ್ದರೆ ನಾವು ಅದೃಷ್ಟವಂತರು.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅಂಥ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನವರನ್ನು ಸಾಧುಗಳು ಎಂದು ಕರೆದು, ಅವರ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಒಂದರ ಹಿಂದೊಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರ ಜಯವನ್ನು ಸಾರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದು ನಾಲ್ಕು ಪಾದಗಳ ಉದ್ದವಾದ ವೃತ್ತ. ಅದರ ನಿಖರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ನಾವು ಖಚಿತಪಡಿಸಿಲ್ಲ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಜಯಂತಿ (जयन्ति, jayanti) = ಜಯಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ (they triumph)
ಜಿತಮತ್ಸರಾಃ (जितमत्सराः, jitamatsarāḥ) = ಮತ್ಸರವನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದವರು (those who have conquered envy)
ಪರಹಿತಾರ್ಥಮಭ್ಯುದ್ಯತಾಃ (परहितार्थमभ्युद्यताः, parahitārthamabhyudyatāḥ) = ಇತರರ ಹಿತಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸಿದ್ಧರಾದವರು (ready for the good of others)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಮತ್ಸರವನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದವರು, ಇತರರ ಹಿತಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸಿದ್ಧರಾದವರು, ಇತರರ ಏಳಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯಿಂದಿರುವವರು, ಇತರರ ವಿಪತ್ತಿನಿಂದ ಮನನೊಂದವರು, ಮಹಾಪುರುಷರ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವ ಕುತೂಹಲವುಳ್ಳವರು, ಎಲ್ಲ ಪಾಪಗಳ ಸಾಗರವನ್ನು ದಾಟಿಸುವ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಕಾಣುವ ಸೇತುವೆಗಳಾದ ಸಾಧುಗಳು ಜಯಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The good triumph: those who have conquered envy, who are ready for the good of others, who are at ease in the rise of others and troubled by their distress, who are eager to hear the good tales of great men, and who are plain bridges across the whole ocean of wrongdoing.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಮತ್ಸರ ಎಂದರೆ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರ ಏಳಿಗೆ ಕಂಡು ಹುಟ್ಟುವ ಅಸೂಯೆ. ಮತ್ಸರವನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದವರು ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಿನ ಜೊತೆಗೇ ಇತರರ ಏಳಿಗೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿರುವುದರಿಂದ, ಇದನ್ನು ಬಾಯಿಮಾತಿನ ಸೌಜನ್ಯವಲ್ಲ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯೆಂದು ಕವಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ.

Matsara is the envy that rises on seeing another prosper. By pairing conquered envy with ease in others’ rise, the poet makes it a state of mind and not a courtesy of speech.

ಸೇತು ಎಂದರೆ ಸೇತುವೆ. ಪಾಪದ ಸಾಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ಈಜಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ, ಸಾಧುಗಳು ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂಬ ಚಿತ್ರ. ಪ್ರಕಟ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಆ ಸೇತುವೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಕಾಣಿಸುವಂತಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

Setu means a bridge. The picture is that one need not swim the ocean of wrongdoing, since the good build the way across. The word prakata hints that the bridge is open for all to see.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಇತರರ ಯಶಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಕಂಡಾಗ ನಮ್ಮೊಳಗೆ ಹುಟ್ಟುವ ಸಣ್ಣ ಕಹಿಯನ್ನು ಮೊದಲು ಗುರುತಿಸಬೇಕು. ಗುರುತಿಸಿದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಿಡಬಹುದು, ನಿರಾಕರಿಸಿದರೆ ಅದು ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

When others succeed we must first notice the small bitterness that rises in us. Noticed, it can be watched and let go. Denied, it grows.

ಸಹೋದ್ಯೋಗಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋದಾಗ ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ಖುಷಿಪಡುವುದು ಒಂದು ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಲಕ್ಷಣ. ಅಂಥ ತಂಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸಬರೂ ಹೆದರದೆ ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Being truly glad when a colleague moves ahead marks a good working culture. In such a team even newcomers learn without fear.
