ಲಾಭಪ್ರಣಯಿನೋ ನೀಚಾಃ: ಹಂಸ ಮತ್ತು ಮುಳುಗುಹಕ್ಕಿ

ಒಂದೇ ಕೆರೆಯ ಬಳಿ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಜೀವಿಗಳು ಬರುತ್ತವೆ, ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ. ಒಬ್ಬನಿಗೆ ಮೀನು ಬೇಕು, ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬನಿಗೆ ನೀರು ತಿಳಿಯಾಗಿರಬೇಕು.

ಈ ಅನುಷ್ಟುಪ್ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಮೂರು ಬಗೆಯ ಬಯಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಲಾಗಿ ಇಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೊನೆಯ ಪಾದದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಂಸ ಬಂದು ಮಾತು ಮುಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಲಾಭಪ್ರಣಯಿನೋ (लाभप्रणयिनो, lābhapraṇayino) = ಲಾಭವನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುವವರು (lovers of gain)
ನೀಚಾ (नीचा, nīcā) = ಕೀಳು ಜನ (the lowly)
ಮಾನಕಾಮಾ (मानकामा, mānakāmā) = ಮಾನವನ್ನು ಬಯಸುವವರು (desirers of honour)
ಮನಸ್ವಿನಃ (मनस्विनः, manasvinaḥ) = ಉದಾತ್ತ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನವರು (the high minded)
ಮದ್ಗುಃ (मद्गुः, madguḥ) = ಮುಳುಗುಹಕ್ಕಿ (the diving bird)
ಸರಸಿ (सरसि, sarasi) = ಕೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ (in the lake)
ಮತ್ಸ್ಯಾರ್ಥೀ (मत्स्यार्थी, matsyārthī) = ಮೀನನ್ನು ಬಯಸುವುದು (seeking fish)
ಹಂಸಸ್ಯೇಷ್ಟಾ (हंसस्येष्टा, haṃsasyeṣṭā) = ಹಂಸಕ್ಕೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾದುದು (dear to the swan)
ಪ್ರಸನ್ನತಾ (प्रसन्नता, prasannatā) = ತಿಳಿಯಾದ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿ (clear calm)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಕೀಳು ಜನ ಲಾಭವನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಉದಾತ್ತ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನವರು ಮಾನವನ್ನು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗುಹಕ್ಕಿ ಮೀನನ್ನು ಬಯಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಹಂಸಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಕಾದದ್ದು ತಿಳಿಯಾದ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The lowly love gain. The high minded desire honour. In the lake the diving bird wants fish, while what the swan cherishes is a clear calm.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಮದ್ಗು ಎಂದರೆ ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿ ಮೀನು ಹಿಡಿಯುವ ಹಕ್ಕಿ. ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಕೊನೆಯ ಭಾಗದ ಈ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ನಾವು ಲಾಭಪ್ರಿಯರಿಗೂ ಹಂಸ ಸ್ವಭಾವದವರಿಗೂ ಹೊಂದಿಸಿ ಓದುತ್ತೇವೆ.

Madgu is a bird that dives for fish. We read this closing image as pairing the gain seekers with the bird and the gentle ones with the swan.

ಪ್ರಸನ್ನತೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ತಿಳಿತನ, ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನೀರಿನ ತಿಳಿತನ. ಹಂಸ ತಿಳಿ ನೀರಿನ ಹಕ್ಕಿ ಎಂಬ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ಈ ಪದ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಕಡೆ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತದೆ.

Prasannata means clarity of mind and also clarity of water. Since the swan belongs to clear water, the word fits on both sides.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಒಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಏನನ್ನು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂದು ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಅವನ ಮಟ್ಟ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಂಬಳ, ಗೌರವ ಅಥವಾ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿ, ನಮ್ಮ ಆಯ್ಕೆ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.

What a person wants shows his level. Salary, respect or calm, our choice describes us.

ಮಾನ ಬಯಸುವುದು ಕೀಳಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಶ್ಲೋಕವೇ ಒಪ್ಪುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮೇಲೆ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಹಂತ ಇದೆ ಎಂಬುದೂ ಅದರ ಮಾತು.

The verse itself allows that wanting honour is not low. It adds that there is one step above it.
