ಮನೆಯ ಅಂಗಳದ ಗಿಡಕ್ಕೆ ನಾವು ನೀರು ಹಾಕುವುದು ಬುಡಕ್ಕೆ. ಆದರೆ ಕೆಲವು ದಿನಗಳ ನಂತರ ಹೊಸ ಚಿಗುರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅದರ ಫಲ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ.

तरुमूलादिषु निहितं जलमाविर्भवति पल्लवाग्रेषु

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ತರುಮೂಲಾದಿಷು (तरुमूलादिषु, tarumūlādiṣu) = ಮರದ ಬುಡ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಕಡೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ (at the root and such parts of the tree)
ನಿಹಿತಮ್ (निहितम्, nihitam) = ಇಟ್ಟ, ಹೊಯ್ದ (poured in)
ಜಲಮ್ (जलम्, jalam) = ನೀರು (water)
ಆವಿರ್ಭವತಿ (आविर्भवति, āvirbhavati) = ಹೊರಗೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ (shows itself)
ಪಲ್ಲವಾಗ್ರೇಷು (पल्लवाग्रेषु, pallavāgreṣu) = ಚಿಗುರಿನ ತುದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ (at the tips of the shoots)
ನಿಭೃತಮ್ (निभृतम्, nibhṛtam) = ಗುಟ್ಟಾಗಿ, ಯಾರಿಗೂ ತಿಳಿಯದಂತೆ (quietly, unnoticed)

ಉಚ್ಚೈಃ (उच्चैः, uccaiḥ) = ಎತ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿ, ಎದ್ದು ಕಾಣುವಂತೆ (on high)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಮರದ ಬುಡಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಯ್ದ ನೀರು ಚಿಗುರಿನ ತುದಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ ಗುಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ತಮಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಉಪಕಾರವನ್ನೂ ಮಹಾತ್ಮರು ಎತ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊತ್ತು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Water poured at the root of a tree shows itself at the tips of the shoots. In the same way, a kindness done to the great in quiet, they carry on high.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪಮಾನ ಮೊದಲ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಉಪಮೇಯ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೇರು ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಕಾಣದ ಜಾಗ, ಚಿಗುರು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಕಾಣುವ ಜಾಗ. ಈ ಅಂತರವೇ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಚಿತ್ರ.

The comparison is in the first line and the thing compared in the second. The root is the unseen place and the shoot the visible one. That distance is the picture of the verse.

ನಿಭೃತ ಎಂದರೆ ಗುಟ್ಟಾಗಿ, ಸದ್ದಿಲ್ಲದೆ. ಉಪಕಾರ ಮಾಡಿದವನೇ ಅದನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳದಿದ್ದರೂ ಮಹಾತ್ಮರು ಅದನ್ನು ಮರೆಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಮಾತು. ಉಚ್ಚೈಃ ಎಂದರೆ ಎತ್ತರದ ದನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂದೂ ಆಗಬಹುದು, ಅಂದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು.

Nibhrita means quietly, without sound. The point is that even when the giver never speaks of it, the great do not forget. Uccaih can also mean in a loud voice, that is, they speak of it before everyone.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಯಾರೂ ನೋಡದಂತೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ದಾದಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಹಾಯವನ್ನು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ನಂತರವೂ ಹಿರಿಯ ವೈದ್ಯರೊಬ್ಬರು ನೆನಪಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಹೇಳುವುದನ್ನು ನಾವು ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಹಿರಿತನದ ಒಂದು ಗುರುತು ಇದು.

We have seen a senior doctor recall, years later, a small help a nurse gave at night when no one was watching. It is one mark of real seniority.

ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ನಮಗೆ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಸದ್ದಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಹೆಸರು ಹೇಳಿ ಹೊರಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸುವ ಹೊಣೆ ನಮ್ಮದೂ ಆಗಿದೆ.

On the other side, if someone has helped us quietly, naming them aloud is a duty that falls to us too.
