ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಪಾಂಚಜನ್ಯಂ ಹೃಷೀಕೇಶೋ ದೇವದತ್ತಂ ಧನಂಜಯಃ ।
ಪೌಂಡ್ರಂ ದಧ್ಮೌ ಮಹಾಶಂಖಂ ಭೀಮಕರ್ಮಾ ವೃಕೋದರಃ ॥ 15 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
पाञ्चजन्यं हृषीकेशो देवदत्तं धनञ्जयः ।
पौण्ड्रं दध्मौ महाशङ्खं भीमकर्मा वृकोदरः ॥ 15 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಪಾಂಚಜನ್ಯಮ್ (पाञ्चजन्यम्, pāñcajanyam) = ಪಾಂಚಜನ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಶಂಖವನ್ನು (the conch Panchajanya)
- ಹೃಷೀಕೇಶಃ (हृषीकेशः, hṛṣīkeśaḥ) = ಹೃಷೀಕೇಶ, ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳ ಒಡೆಯನಾದ ಕೃಷ್ಣ (Hrishikesha, Krishna, lord of the senses)
- ದೇವದತ್ತಮ್ (देवदत्तम्, devadattam) = ದೇವದತ್ತ ಎಂಬ ಶಂಖವನ್ನು (the conch Devadatta)
- ಧನಂಜಯಃ (धनञ्जयः, dhanañjayaḥ) = ಧನಂಜಯ, ಅಂದರೆ ಅರ್ಜುನ (Dhananjaya, Arjuna)
- ಪೌಂಡ್ರಮ್ (पौण्ड्रम्, pauṇḍram) = ಪೌಂಡ್ರ ಎಂಬ (named Paundra)
- ದಧ್ಮೌ (दध्मौ, dadhmau) = ಊದಿದನು (blew)
- ಮಹಾಶಂಖಮ್ (महाशङ्खम्, mahāśaṅkham) = ಮಹಾಶಂಖವನ್ನು (the great conch)
- ಭೀಮಕರ್ಮಾ (भीमकर्मा, bhīmakarmā) = ಭೀಕರ ಸಾಹಸಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವ (of fearsome deeds)
- ವೃಕೋದರಃ (वृकोदरः, vṛkodaraḥ) = ತೋಳದ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯವನು, ಅಂದರೆ ಭೀಮ (wolf-bellied, Bhima)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಹೃಷೀಕೇಶನು ಪಾಂಚಜನ್ಯವನ್ನು, ಧನಂಜಯನು ದೇವದತ್ತವನ್ನು ಊದಿದರು. ಭೀಕರ ಸಾಹಸಗಳ ವೃಕೋದರನು ಪೌಂಡ್ರ ಎಂಬ ಮಹಾಶಂಖವನ್ನು ಊದಿದನು.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Hrishikesha blew Panchajanya and Dhananjaya blew Devadatta. Vrikodara of fearsome deeds blew the great conch Paundra.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 1.15ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 1.15
ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಶಂಖಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಸರಿದೆ, ಪ್ರತಿ ವೀರನಿಗೂ ಒಂದು ಬಿರುದಿದೆ. ಪಾಂಚಜನ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು ಪಂಚಜನ ಎಂಬ ಅಸುರನಿಂದ ಬಂದದ್ದು. ಗುರು ಸಾಂದೀಪನಿಯ ಮಗನನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸಿ ತರುವಾಗ ಸಮುದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಆ ಅಸುರನನ್ನು ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಕೊಂದು ಅವನ ಶಂಖವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡನು ಎಂದು ಭಾಗವತ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಪುರಾಣಗಳು ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ. ದೇವದತ್ತ ಎಂದರೆ ದೇವತೆಗಳು ಕೊಟ್ಟದ್ದು. ಪೌಂಡ್ರ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಮೂಲದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮೂಲಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಮ್ಮತವಿಲ್ಲ.
Here every conch has a name and every warrior an epithet. The name Panchajanya comes from the asura Panchajana. The Bhagavata and other Puranas tell that while rescuing the son of his teacher Sandipani, Krishna killed that asura, who lived in the sea, and took his conch. Devadatta means given by the gods. The sources do not agree on the origin of the name Paundra.
ಬಿರುದುಗಳೂ ಕಥೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಹೃಷೀಕೇಶ ಎಂದರೆ ಹೃಷೀಕಗಳ, ಅಂದರೆ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳ ಈಶ. ರಾಜಸೂಯದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಲವು ರಾಜರನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದು ಸಂಪತ್ತು ತಂದವನು ಎಂಬ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಜುನ ಧನಂಜಯ. ತೋಳದಂತೆ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯುಳ್ಳವನು ಎಂದು ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ವೃಕೋದರ ಎಂಬ ಪದವನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅದಲ್ಲದೆ ಭೀಮ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿಗೆ ಹೊಂದುವಂತೆ ಭೀಮಕರ್ಮಾ, ಭೀಕರ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವವನು ಎಂಬ ವಿಶೇಷಣವನ್ನೂ ಸಂಜಯ ಸೇರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.
The epithets tell stories too. Hrishikesha means the lord, isha, of the hrishikas, the senses. Arjuna is Dhananjaya, winner of wealth, because he conquered many kings and brought back riches at the time of the Rajasuya. Sridhara Swami opens vrikodara as one with a belly like a wolf. Besides, to match the name Bhima, Sanjaya adds bhimakarma, doer of fearsome deeds.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಷ್ಣನನ್ನು ಹೃಷೀಕೇಶ, ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳ ಒಡೆಯ ಎಂದು ಕರೆದಿರುವುದನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಿ. ಇನ್ನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹೊತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅದೇ ರಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳು ಒಂದೊಂದಾಗಿ ಕುಸಿಯಲಿವೆ. ಕೈ ನಡುಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಬಾಯಿ ಒಣಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಬಿಲ್ಲು ಜಾರುತ್ತದೆ.
Notice that Krishna is called Hrishikesha, lord of the senses, in this verse. In a little while, in that same chariot, Arjuna’s senses will give way one by one. His hands will tremble, his mouth will go dry, his bow will slip.
ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳ ಒಡೆಯ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವಾಗಲೂ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳು ಕುಸಿಯಬಹುದು. ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಇದು ಗೊತ್ತು. ಅರಿವು ಹತ್ತಿರವಿರುವುದು ಬೇರೆ, ಅದು ನಮ್ಮೊಳಗೆ ಇಳಿಯುವುದು ಬೇರೆ. ಗೀತೆಯ ಉಳಿದ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯಗಳು ಈ ಅಂತರವನ್ನು ದಾಟುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ.
The senses can collapse even with their lord standing right beside us. We all know this. Having wisdom close at hand is one thing; having it sink into us is another. The rest of the Gita is an attempt to cross that gap.
