ಹಲವು ಮನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಗಿನ ಜಾವ ರೇಡಿಯೋ ಅಥವಾ ಫೋನಿನಿಂದ ಮೊದಲು ಕೇಳಿಬರುವ ಸಾಲು ಇದು. ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ ಸುಪ್ರಭಾತ ಇದರಿಂದಲೇ ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಆದರೆ ಈ ಸಾಲು ಮೊದಲು ಹೇಳಿದವರು ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರು. ಯಜ್ಞರಕ್ಷಣೆಗೆಂದು ರಾಮಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣರನ್ನು ಕರೆದೊಯ್ಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಸರಯೂ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಲಗಿದ್ದ ಹುಡುಗ ರಾಮನನ್ನು ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಅವರು ಹೀಗೆ ಎಬ್ಬಿಸಿದರು.

ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾ ಸುಪ್ರಜಾ ರಾಮ ಪೂರ್ವಾ ಸಂಧ್ಯಾ ಪ್ರವರ್ತತೇ ।

कौसल्या सुप्रजा राम पूर्वा सन्ध्या प्रवर्तते ।

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾಸುಪ್ರಜಾ (कौसल्यासुप्रजा, kausalyāsuprajā) = ಕೌಸಲ್ಯೆಯ ಸುಪುತ್ರನೇ (O worthy son of Kausalya)
- ರಾಮ (राम, rāma) = ಓ ರಾಮನೇ (O Rama)
- ಪೂರ್ವಾ (पूर्वा, pūrvā) = ಪೂರ್ವದ, ಮುಂಜಾನೆಯ (the eastern, morning)
- ಸಂಧ್ಯಾ (सन्ध्या, sandhyā) = ಸಂಧ್ಯೆ, ಹಗಲು ರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಸಂಧಿಕಾಲ (twilight)
- ಪ್ರವರ್ತತೇ (प्रवर्तते, pravartate) = ಆರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ (is setting in)
- ಉತ್ತಿಷ್ಠ (उत्तिष्ठ, uttiṣṭha) = ಏಳು (arise)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಕೌಸಲ್ಯೆಯ ಸುಪುತ್ರನಾದ ಓ ರಾಮ, ಮುಂಜಾನೆಯ ಸಂಧ್ಯೆ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಓ ನರಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠನೇ, ಏಳು. ದೇವತೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಬೇಕಾದ ದಿನನಿತ್ಯದ ಕರ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
O Rama, worthy son of Kausalya, the morning twilight is setting in. Arise, O tiger among men; the daily rites owed to the gods are to be done.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse
ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕಿ ರಾಮಾಯಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಬಾಲಕಾಂಡದ ಇಪ್ಪತ್ಮೂರನೆಯ ಸರ್ಗದ ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಹಿಂದಿನ ರಾತ್ರಿ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರರು ರಾಮಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣರಿಗೆ ಬಲಾ ಮತ್ತು ಅತಿಬಲಾ ವಿದ್ಯೆಗಳನ್ನು ಉಪದೇಶಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಸರ್ಗಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಆವೃತ್ತಿಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಬದಲಾಗಬಹುದು.
In the Valmiki Ramayana this verse opens the twenty-third canto of the Bala Kanda. The night before, Vishvamitra had taught Rama and Lakshmana the spells bala and atibala. Canto numbers can vary slightly between editions.
ಹದಿನೈದನೆಯ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿವಾದಿ ಭಯಂಕರಂ ಅಣ್ಣನ್ ಅವರು ರಚಿಸಿದ ಶ್ರೀ ವೆಂಕಟೇಶ ಸುಪ್ರಭಾತ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಿಂದ ಆರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದರ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಉತ್ತಿಷ್ಠೋತ್ತಿಷ್ಠ ಗೋವಿಂದ. ಎಂ. ಎಸ್. ಸುಬ್ಬುಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿಯವರ ಧ್ವನಿಮುದ್ರಣ ಇದನ್ನು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಭಾರತದ ಮನೆಮನೆಗೆ ಮುಟ್ಟಿಸಿತು.
The Sri Venkatesha Suprabhatam, composed in the fifteenth century by Prativadi Bhayankaram Annan, opens with this verse; its second verse is uttishthottishtha govinda. M. S. Subbulakshmi’s recording carried it into homes across South India.
ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾಸುಪ್ರಜಾ ಎಂಬುದು ಒಂದು ಸಮಾಸ; ಕೌಸಲ್ಯೆಗೆ ಉತ್ತಮ ಸಂತಾನವಾದವನು ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ. ಕೆಲವರು ಕೌಸಲ್ಯಾ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಬೇರೆ ಪದವೆಂದು ತಪ್ಪಾಗಿ ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ.
Kausalyasupraja is a compound meaning the one through whom Kausalya has a worthy child. It is sometimes wrongly read with kausalya as a separate word.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಮನನ್ನು ಎಬ್ಬಿಸುವ ಗುರು ಗದರಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಮೊದಲು ತಾಯಿಯ ಹೆಸರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ, ನಂತರ ನರಶಾರ್ದೂಲ ಎಂದು ಹೊಗಳುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಎಬ್ಬಿಸಲು ಇದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಮಾದರಿ ಇಲ್ಲ.
In this verse the teacher who wakes Rama does not scold. He first names the mother, then praises him as a tiger among men, and only then reminds him of his duty. There is no better model for waking children in the morning.
ಹದಿಹರೆಯದವರ ದೇಹದ ಗಡಿಯಾರ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ತಡವಾಗಿ ಓಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ನಿದ್ರಾ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಬೇಗ ಏಳಿಸುವುದಾದರೆ ಬೇಗ ಮಲಗುವ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯೂ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರಬೇಕು.
