ಸದ್ವಂಶಜಸ್ಯ ಪರಿತಾಪನುದಃ: ಮುತ್ತಿನ ರಂಧ್ರದಂತೆ ತಪ್ಪು

ಒಳ್ಳೆಯವರೆಂದು ಹೆಸರಾದ ಒಬ್ಬರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ತಪ್ಪು ಕಂಡಾಗ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಅವರ ಇಡೀ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಮರುತೂಕ ಮಾಡಲು ಹೊರಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಂದು ತಪ್ಪಿನಿಂದ ಹತ್ತು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯತನ ಅಳಿಸಿಹೋದಂತೆ ಅನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇರೆ ಕಣ್ಣು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ತಪ್ಪನ್ನು ಮುತ್ತಿನ ರಂಧ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಸದ್ವಂಶಜಸ್ಯ (सद्वंशजस्य, sadvaṃśajasya) = ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ವಂಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದವನ (of one born in a good line)
ಪರಿತಾಪನುದಃ (परितापनुदः, paritāpanudaḥ) = ಇತರರ ತಾಪವನ್ನು ನೀಗಿಸುವವನ (who removes the distress of others)
ಸುವೃತ್ತಶುದ್ಧಾತ್ಮನಃ (सुवृत्तशुद्धात्मनः, suvṛttaśuddhātmanaḥ) = ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ನಡತೆಯ ಶುದ್ಧ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನವನ (of good conduct and pure self)
ಸಕಲಲೋಕವಿಭೂಷಣಸ್ಯ (सकललोकविभूषणस्य, sakalalokavibhūṣaṇasya) = ಇಡೀ ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಭೂಷಣನಾದವನ (the ornament of the whole world)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ವಂಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ, ಇತರರ ತಾಪ ನೀಗಿಸುವ, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ನಡತೆಯ ಶುದ್ಧ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ, ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಭೂಷಣನಾದ ಸಾಧುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದೈವವಶದಿಂದ ಒಂದು ದೋಷ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದರೂ, ಮುತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿನ ರಂಧ್ರದಂತೆ ಅದು ಖಂಡಿತ ಗುಣಕ್ಕೇ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

In a good person born of a good line, who removes the distress of others, whose conduct is good and whose self is pure, the ornament of the whole world, even if a flaw arises by chance, it surely turns to merit, like the hole in a pearl.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಮುತ್ತಿಗೆ ರಂಧ್ರ ಕೊರೆದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅದು ಹಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋಣಿಸಲು ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೀಗೆ ರಂಧ್ರ ಎಂಬ ದೋಷವೇ ಅದರ ಉಪಯೋಗಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾಗಿಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯ ಒಳಾರ್ಥ.

A pearl becomes fit for a necklace only once it is bored through. So the hole, a flaw, is the very door to its use, and that is the inner sense of the comparison.

ವಿಶೇಷಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ಲೇಷೆ ಇರಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ನಮಗೆ ತೋರುತ್ತದೆ. ಸದ್ವಂಶ ಎಂದರೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ವಂಶ ಅಥವಾ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಬಿದಿರು, ಸುವೃತ್ತ ಎಂದರೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ನಡತೆ ಅಥವಾ ಸುಂದರ ದುಂಡಗೆ. ಇದು ನಮ್ಮ ಓದು, ಶ್ಲೋಕವೇ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಲ್ಲ.

We suspect a pun in the epithets. Sadvamsa can mean a good line or good bamboo, and suvrtta good conduct or a fine roundness. This is our reading, not something the verse says.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಒಬ್ಬರ ಒಂದು ತಪ್ಪನ್ನು ಅವರ ಇಡೀ ಬದುಕಿನ ತೀರ್ಪು ಮಾಡದಿರುವ ಉದಾರತೆಯನ್ನು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಕೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಮೂಲ ಸ್ವಭಾವ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ತಪ್ಪು ಅವರನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಮಾನವರನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು.

The verse asks for the generosity of not making one fault a verdict on a whole life. Where the basic nature is good, the fault may make the person more human.

ಇದು ಹಾನಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ತಪ್ಪಿಗೆ ಕ್ಷಮೆಯ ಪತ್ರ ಅಲ್ಲ. ದೈವವಶದಿಂದ ಆದ ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ತಪ್ಪಿನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಇದು ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.

This is not a pardon for a fault that caused harm. It speaks only of a small slip that happened by chance.
