ತಿರುಮಲಯ ಶ್ರೀವೈಷ್ಣವ ಪಂಚಾಂಗಗಳು ಆಚರಿಸುವಂತೆ, ವೈಶಾಖ ಶುಕ್ಲ ಚತುರ್ದಶಿಯಂದು ಬರುವ ನರಸಿಂಹ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಜನ್ಮದಿನವೇ ಶ್ರೀವೈಷ್ಣವ ನರಸಿಂಹ ಜಯಂತಿ.
ಆಚರಿಸುವ ರೀತಿ
ತಿರುಮಲ ಮತ್ತು ನರಸಿಂಹ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಗಳು ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಶ್ರೀವೈಷ್ಣವ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಿರುಮಂಜನ, ವಿಶೇಷ ಅಲಂಕಾರ ಮತ್ತು ನರಸಿಂಹ ದೇವರ ಮೆರವಣಿಗೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಈ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕರು ಸಂಜೆಯವರೆಗೆ ಉಪವಾಸವಿದ್ದು, ಪಾನಕದ ನೈವೇದ್ಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀನರಸಿಂಹನನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸಿ, ಪ್ರಹ್ಲಾದನ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ; ಸಂಜೆಯ ಪೂಜೆಯ ನಂತರ ಉಪವಾಸ ಮುರಿಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಕಥೆ
ಪ್ರಹ್ಲಾದನನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿ ಹಿರಣ್ಯಕಶಿಪುವನ್ನು ಸಂಹರಿಸಲು ನರಸಿಂಹ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯು ಸಂಧ್ಯಾಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಬದಿಂದ ಪ್ರಕಟವಾದನು. ಚತುರ್ದಶಿಯು ಯಾವ ದಿನದ ಸಂಧ್ಯಾಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತದೆಯೋ ಆ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಸ್ಮಾರ್ತ ಪಂಚಾಂಗಗಳು ಆಚರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಆದರೆ ತಿರುಮಲಯ ಪಂಚಾಂಗವೂ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಶ್ರೀವೈಷ್ಣವ ಪಂಚಾಂಗಗಳು ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಚತುರ್ದಶಿ ಇರುವ ದಿನವನ್ನೇ ಆಚರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬರುತ್ತಿವೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಚತುರ್ದಶಿಯು ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನ ಆರಂಭವಾದಾಗ, ಸ್ಮಾರ್ತರ ಸಂಜೆಯ ಆಚರಣೆಯ ಮರುದಿನ ಇವರ ಆಚರಣೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.
ಅನುದಿನ ಕೊಡುವ ದಿನ
ವೈಶಾಖ ಮಾಸದ ಶುಕ್ಲ ಪಕ್ಷದ 14ನೇ ತಿಥಿಯಾದ ವೈಶಾಖ ಶುಕ್ಲ ಚತುರ್ದಶಿಯು ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯದ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ಇರುವ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಅನುದಿನ ಆ್ಯಪ್ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀವೈಷ್ಣವ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಆಯ್ದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಓದುಗರಿಗೆ ಇದು ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ; ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ನರಸಿಂಹ ಜಯಂತಿಯೂ ಅದೇ ದಿನ ಬಂದರೆ, ಅನುದಿನ ಆ ದಿನವನ್ನು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀವೈಷ್ಣವ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಆಯ್ದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಓದುಗರಿಗೆ, ಅವರು ಎಲ್ಲೇ ಇದ್ದರೂ ಅನುದಿನ ಇದನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಹಬ್ಬಗಳು ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತವೆ; ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯು ಹೆಚ್ಚುವರಿ ದಿನಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಸೇರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

How it is kept
Sri Vaishnava temples, Tirumala and the Narasimha shrines among them, keep the day with tirumanjanam, special alankara and a procession of Narasimha. At home many fast until the evening, worship Lakshmi Narasimha with panakam and read the story of Prahlada, and break the fast after the evening puja.
The story
Narasimha appeared at dusk from a pillar to protect Prahlada and end Hiranyakashipu. Smarta almanacs keep the day whose dusk the chaturdashi covers. The Sri Vaishnava calendars, Tirumala’s among them, have in recent years kept the day on which chaturdashi stands at sunrise, so when chaturdashi begins in the afternoon their day is the one after the Smarta evening day.
Which day Anudina gives
Anudina gives the day on which Vaishakha shukla chaturdashi, the fourteenth tithi of the bright fortnight of Vaishakha, is running at sunrise. A reader who ticks the Sri Vaishnava lineage sees it; if the general Narasimha Jayanti falls on the same day, the day is shown once.
Anudina shows it to readers who tick the Sri Vaishnava lineage in the Tradition sheet, wherever they are. The general festivals are always shown; a lineage only adds days.
