ಗೇಹಂ ದುರ್ಗತಬಂಧುಭಿಃ: ಸಾಧು ವಿಶ್ರಮಿಸುವುದು ಎಲ್ಲಿ

ಸಂಜೆ ಬಸ್ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಸ್ತಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಬೆಂಚು ಹುಡುಕಿದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ತುಂಬಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಗ ಎಲ್ಲಿಯಾದರೂ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಒಂದು ಮೂಲೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದರೆ ಸಾಕು ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದೇ ಹುಡುಕಾಟವನ್ನು ಸಾಧುವಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆ ಹಾಕುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಇಟ್ಟು ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ. ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿನ ಹೆಸರು ಖಚಿತವಿಲ್ಲ, ಪ್ರತಿ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂವತ್ತೆಂಟು ಅಕ್ಷರಗಳಿವೆ.

ಗುರುಗೃಹಂ ಛಾತ್ರೈರಹಂಕಾರಿಭಿರ್ (गुरुगृहं छात्रैरहंकारिभिर्, gurugṛhaṃ chātrairahaṃkāribhir) = ಗುರುಮನೆ ಅಹಂಕಾರಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಂದ (the teacher’s house, with proud students)

ಸತ್ಯಸರಲಃ ಸಾಧುಃ (सत्यसरलः साधुः, satyasaralaḥ sādhuḥ) = ಸತ್ಯವಂತ ಸರಳ ಸಾಧು (the truthful and simple good man)
ಕ್ವ ವಿಶ್ರಾಮ್ಯತಿ (क्व विश्राम्यति, kva viśrāmyati) = ಎಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ರಮಿಸುವನು (where will he rest)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಮನೆ ಕಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಬಂಧುಗಳಿಂದ, ಗುರುಮನೆ ಅಹಂಕಾರಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಂದ, ಪೇಟೆ ವಂಚಕರಿಂದ, ಆಶ್ರಮಗಳು ಶಾಪಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿದ್ಧರಾದ ಮುನಿಗಳಿಂದ, ಕಾಡು ಸಿಂಹ ಮೊದಲಾದವುಗಳಿಂದ, ರಾಜಸಭೆ ದುಷ್ಟರಿಂದ ಮತ್ತು ದಿಕ್ಕಿನ ತುದಿಗಳೂ ಕಳ್ಳರಿಂದ ಕಿಕ್ಕಿರಿದಿವೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಸತ್ಯವಂತನೂ ಸರಳನೂ ಆದ ಸಾಧು ಎಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ರಮಿಸುವನು.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The home is crowded with kin in distress, the teacher’s house with proud students, the market with cheats, the hermitages with sages ready to curse, the forest with lions and the like, the royal court with rogues, and even the ends of the earth with thieves. Seeing all this, where is the truthful and simple good man to rest.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಮನೆಯಿಂದ ಹೊರಟು ದಿಕ್ಕುಗಳ ತುದಿಯವರೆಗೆ ವೃತ್ತ ಬೆಳೆಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರತಿ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೂ ಒಂದು ತೊಂದರೆ ಜೋಡಿಸಿದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತರ ಹೇಳದೆ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟಿದೆ.

The verse widens its circle from the home to the ends of the earth. Each place is given its trouble, and at the end the question is left unanswered.

ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆಯ ಬಂಧುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳೂ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಂದರೆ ದುಷ್ಟರು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಹತ್ತಿರದವರ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗಳೂ ಸಜ್ಜನನ ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಕಸಿಯಬಹುದು ಎಂಬ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

Kin and students appear in the list. So it is not only the wicked: even the needs of those close can take away a good person’s rest, a quiet point in the verse.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಸರಳ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಬೇಡಿಕೆ ಇಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಂಥವರು ತಮಗಾಗಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸಮಯ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥವಲ್ಲ, ಉಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಉಪಾಯ.

Even today everyone makes demands on the simple and honest person. Keeping some time for oneself is not selfishness for such people, it is a way to last.

ಶ್ಲೋಕ ನಿರಾಶೆಯಿಂದ ಕೊನೆಯಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ, ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಸುತ್ತ ಇಂಥವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಸ್ಥಳ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲೂ ಇದೆ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದು.

The verse does not end in despair, it stands as a question. Making a place for such people around us is partly in our hands.
