ಆರ್ಯಾ ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿನ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದೇ ಸಂಗತಿಯನ್ನು ಸ್ನೇಹಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಿ ಸಜ್ಜನರ ಸ್ನೇಹ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾದ ಸ್ನೇಹವನ್ನು ಬೇರೆ ಮಾಡಿ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಇಕ್ಷೋರಗ್ರಾತ್ (इक्षोरग्रात्, ikṣoragrāt) = ಕಬ್ಬಿನ ತುದಿಯಿಂದ (from the tip of the sugarcane)
ಕ್ರಮಶಃ (क्रमशः, kramaśaḥ) = ಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ (in order)
ಪರ್ವಣಿ ಪರ್ವಣಿ (पर्वणि पर्वणि, parvaṇi parvaṇi) = ಪ್ರತಿ ಗಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲೂ (at every joint)
ಯಥಾ (यथा, yathā) = ಹೇಗೆ (as)
ರಸವಿಶೇಷಃ (रसविशेषः, rasaviśeṣaḥ) = ರಸದ ವಿಶೇಷ (a special difference of juice)
ತದ್ವತ್ (तद्वत्, tadvat) = ಹಾಗೆಯೇ (so)
ಸಜ್ಜನಮೈತ್ರೀ (सज्जनमैत्री, sajjanamaitrī) = ಸಜ್ಜನರ ಸ್ನೇಹ (the friendship of the good)
ವಿಪರೀತಾನಾಂ (विपरीतानां, viparītānāṃ) = ವಿರುದ್ಧರ (of the opposite)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಕಬ್ಬಿನ ತುದಿಯಿಂದ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಗಣ್ಣಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಕ್ರಮವಾಗಿ ರಸದ ವಿಶೇಷ ಇರುವಂತೆ ಸಜ್ಜನರ ಸ್ನೇಹ. ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಸ್ವಭಾವದವರ ಸ್ನೇಹ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

As juice differs by degrees at each joint of the cane, starting from the tip, so is the friendship of the good. The friendship of those of opposite nature is the opposite of that.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಯಾವ ಕಡೆ ಸಿಹಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಕಬ್ಬಿನ ರಸ ತುದಿಯಿಂದ ಬುಡದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಸಿಹಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಅದರಂತೆ ನಾವು ಓದಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

The verse does not say which side is sweeter. It is commonly said that cane juice grows sweeter from tip to base, and we have read it so.

ಇದರಿಂದ ಸಜ್ಜನರ ಸ್ನೇಹ ಕಾಲ ಕಳೆದಂತೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಿಹಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಅರ್ಥ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿರುದ್ಧರ ಸ್ನೇಹ ಮೊದಲು ಸಿಹಿ ತೋರಿ ನಂತರ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಓದಬಹುದು.

This gives the sense that the friendship of the good grows sweeter with time. The other kind may be read as sweet at first and then fading.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಸ್ನೇಹದ ಮೊದಲ ದಿನದ ಸಿಹಿ ಅದರ ಗುಣಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಯಲ್ಲ. ವರ್ಷಗಳು ಕಳೆದ ಮೇಲೆ ಅದು ಹೇಗಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದೇ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿ.

The sweetness of friendship on its first day is no proof of its quality. How it is after years is the proof.

ಇದು ಒಂದು ಹೋಲಿಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಹೊಸ ಸ್ನೇಹಗಳೂ ಹೀಗೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲು ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

This is only a comparison. One cannot say that all new friendships grow in this way.
