ವಾರ್ಡಿನ ಸುತ್ತಾಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ವೈದ್ಯರು ಕಿರಿಯರ ಒಂದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿಯನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲರ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೊಗಳಿದರೆ ಆ ದಿನ ಇಡೀ ತಂಡದ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಹಗುರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಂತಹ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಅಪರೂಪ.
ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅಂತಹವರ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಕೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವರು ಎಷ್ಟು ಮಂದಿ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕೊನೆಯಾಗುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ತಿರುವು.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಮನಸಿ (मनसि, manasi) = ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ (in the mind)
- ವಚಸಿ (वचसि, vacasi) = ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲಿ (in speech)
- ಕಾಯೇ (काये, kāye) = ದೇಹದಲ್ಲಿ (in the body)
- ಪುಣ್ಯಪೀಯೂಷಪೂರ್ಣಾಸ್ತ್ರಿಭುವನಮುಪಕಾರಶ್ರೇಣಿಭಿಃ (पुण्यपीयूषपूर्णास्त्रिभुवनमुपकारश्रेणिभिः, puṇyapīyūṣapūrṇāstribhuvanamupakāraśreṇibhiḥ) = ಪುಣ್ಯವೆಂಬ ಅಮೃತದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದವರು, ಮೂರು ಲೋಕಗಳನ್ನು ಉಪಕಾರಗಳ ಸಾಲುಗಳಿಂದ (full of the nectar of merit, the three worlds by rows of benefactions)
- ಪ್ರೀಣಯಂತಃ (प्रीणयन्तः, prīṇayantaḥ) = ಸಂತೋಷಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾ (gladdening)
- ಪರಗುಣಪರಮಾಣೂನ್ಪರ್ವತೀಕೃತ್ಯ (परगुणपरमाणून्पर्वतीकृत्य, paraguṇaparamāṇūnparvatīkṛtya) = ಇತರರ ಗುಣಗಳ ಅಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಟ್ಟವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿ (making mountains of the atoms of others’ virtues)
- ನಿತ್ಯಂ (नित्यं, nityaṃ) = ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ (always)
- ನಿಜಹೃದಿ (निजहृदि, nijahṛdi) = ತಮ್ಮ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ (in their own hearts)
- ವಿಕಸಂತಃ (विकसन्तः, vikasantaḥ) = ಅರಳುತ್ತಾ (blossoming)
- ಸಂತಿ (सन्ति, santi) = ಇದ್ದಾರೆ (there are)
- ಸಂತಃ (सन्तः, santaḥ) = ಸಜ್ಜನರು (good people)
- ಕಿಯಂತಃ (कियन्तः, kiyantaḥ) = ಎಷ್ಟು ಮಂದಿ (how many)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಮನಸ್ಸು, ಮಾತು, ದೇಹ ಮೂರರಲ್ಲೂ ಪುಣ್ಯವೆಂಬ ಅಮೃತ ತುಂಬಿರುವವರು, ತಮ್ಮ ಉಪಕಾರಗಳ ಸಾಲಿನಿಂದ ಮೂರು ಲೋಕಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂತೋಷಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇತರರ ಅಣುವಿನಷ್ಟು ಗುಣವನ್ನು ಬೆಟ್ಟದಷ್ಟು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ತಮ್ಮ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಅರಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಂತಹ ಸಜ್ಜನರು ಎಷ್ಟು ಮಂದಿ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ?
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Those whose mind, speech and body are full of the nectar of merit gladden the three worlds with long rows of kindly acts. They take the atom of another’s virtue and make a mountain of it, and they blossom always in their own hearts. How many such good people are there?
ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita
ಮನಸ್ಸು, ಮಾತು, ದೇಹ ಎಂಬ ಮೂರನ್ನು ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿರುವುದು ಗಮನಾರ್ಹ. ಕೇವಲ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಯೋಚನೆ ಸಾಲದು, ಅದು ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲೂ ಕಾಣಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿನ ಒತ್ತು.
It is worth noticing that mind, speech and body are named together. Good thought is not enough, it must show in word and in deed.
ಪರಮಾಣು ಮತ್ತು ಪರ್ವತ ಎಂಬ ಹೋಲಿಕೆ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಹೃದಯ. ಇತರರ ದೋಷವನ್ನು ಬೆಟ್ಟ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಲೋಕದ ರೀತಿ. ಸಜ್ಜನರು ಅದನ್ನು ತಿರುಗಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಕೊನೆಯ ಕಿಯಂತಃ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಅಪರೂಪ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
The pairing of atom and mountain is the heart of the verse. Making a mountain of another’s fault is the way of the world, and the good turn that around. The closing question how many hints at how rare they are.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಕಿರಿಯರ ಸಣ್ಣ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿ ಹೇಳುವ ಒಂದು ಮಾತು ಬಹಳ ದೂರ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ಹೇಳಲು ನಮಗೆ ಏನೂ ಖರ್ಚಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
A word that notices a junior’s small progress goes a long way. It costs us nothing to say it.
ಇದು ಹೊಗಳಿಕೆಯ ಪಾಠ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ. ಇತರರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುವ ಕಣ್ಣು ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನೂ ಹಗುರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಬಹುದು.
It is not only a lesson in praise. One may take it that an eye that looks for good in others also lightens our own mind.
