ಪ್ರೇರಯತಿ ಪರಮನಾರ್ಯಃ: ಕತ್ತರಿಸಲಾರದ ಸಾಣೆಕಲ್ಲು

ಬೀದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕತ್ತಿ, ಕತ್ತರಿಗೆ ಸಾಣೆ ಹಿಡಿಯುವವನ ಚಕ್ರ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಿಡಿ ಹಾರುತ್ತದೆ, ಕತ್ತಿ ಹೊಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ, ಕಲ್ಲು ಮಾತ್ರ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಆರ್ಯಾ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ಕಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ ಇತರರನ್ನು ಕೇಡಿಗೆ ಹುರಿದುಂಬಿಸುವವನಿಗೆ ಹೋಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

प्रेरयति परमनार्यः शक्तिविहीनोऽपि जगदभिद्रोहे
तेजयति शस्त्रधारां स्वयमसमर्था शिला छेत्तुम्

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಪ್ರೇರಯತಿ (प्रेरयति, prerayati) = ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ (incites)
ಪರಮ್ (परम्, param) = ಇತರನನ್ನು (another)
ಅನಾರ್ಯಃ (अनार्यः, anāryaḥ) = ಸಭ್ಯತೆಯಿಲ್ಲದವನು (the ignoble man)
ಶಕ್ತಿವಿಹೀನಃ ಅಪಿ (शक्तिविहीनः अपि, śaktivihīnaḥ api) = ಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದವನಾದರೂ (though without power)
ಜಗತ್ ಅಭಿದ್ರೋಹೇ (जगत् अभिद्रोहे, jagat abhidrohe) = ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಕೇಡು ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ (to do harm to the world)
ತೇಜಯತಿ (तेजयति, tejayati) = ಹರಿತ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ (sharpens)
ಶಸ್ತ್ರಧಾರಾಮ್ (शस्त्रधाराम्, śastradhārām) = ಆಯುಧದ ಅಲಗನ್ನು (the edge of a weapon)

ಅಸಮರ್ಥಾ (असमर्था, asamarthā) = ಅಶಕ್ತವಾದ (unable)
ಶಿಲಾ (शिला, śilā) = ಸಾಣೆಕಲ್ಲು (the whetstone)
ಛೇತ್ತುಮ್ (छेत्तुम्, chettum) = ಕತ್ತರಿಸಲು (to cut)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಶಕ್ತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಅನಾರ್ಯನಾದರೂ ಇತರನನ್ನು ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಕೇಡು ಮಾಡಲು ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ತಾನೇ ಕತ್ತರಿಸಲಾರದ ಸಾಣೆಕಲ್ಲು ಆಯುಧದ ಅಲಗನ್ನು ಹರಿತ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The ignoble man, though himself without power, urges another on to harm the world. The whetstone, unable itself to cut, puts an edge on the blade of a weapon.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಅನಾರ್ಯ ಎಂದರೆ ಉದಾತ್ತತೆ ಇಲ್ಲದವನು, ಸಭ್ಯನಲ್ಲದವನು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಅದು ಯಾವುದೇ ಜನಾಂಗವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ, ನಡತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.

Anarya means one without nobility, one not well bred in conduct. Here it names no people, only behaviour.

ಶಿಲೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಣೆಕಲ್ಲು. ಅದು ಸ್ವತಃ ಏನನ್ನೂ ಕತ್ತರಿಸದು, ಆದರೆ ಕತ್ತಿಗೆ ಕತ್ತರಿಸುವ ಅಲಗು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ತೇಜಯತಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಹೊಳಪು ಮತ್ತು ಹರಿತ ಕೊಡುವುದು.

Shila here is the whetstone. It cuts nothing itself, yet it gives the knife its edge. Tejayati means to give brightness and keenness.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ವಿವಾದದಲ್ಲಿ ತಾನು ಮುಂದೆ ಬರದೆ ಇತರರನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿಕಟ್ಟುವವರನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುವ ಕಣ್ಣು ಬೇಕು. ಕತ್ತಿ ಹಿಡಿದವನು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಸಾಣೆ ಹಿಡಿದವನೂ ಕತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ.

We need an eye for those who stay out of a quarrel themselves and push others into it. Not only the man with the blade, the man at the wheel is also in the story.

ಎಲ್ಲ ಸಲಹೆಗಾರರೂ ಇಂಥವರಲ್ಲ. ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೂ ಸಾಣೆ ಬೇಕು, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರೂ ಹರಿತ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೇಳುವುದು ಕೇಡಿಗೆ ಹುರಿದುಂಬಿಸುವವನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ.

Not every adviser is like this. Good work also needs sharpening, and good teachers sharpen too. The verse speaks only of the one who cheers others on to harm.
