A good person delights the whole world abundantly through beneficial deeds, and does so without being asked. Tell me, who propitiated the moon, that with his generous rays he makes whole clusters of night lilies bloom?
About this subhashita
The word kara means both ray and hand. Generous karas are generous rays and, at the same time, generous hands. The comparison rests on this word.
Kairavini is the night blooming water lily. That it opens to moonlight is an old poetic convention. The question is not asked to be answered, but to show that no answer is needed.

For life today
There is no need to wait to be asked before doing good. A doctor in the outpatient clinic who answers even the question the patient did not ask is a small form of this.
At the same time, help given unasked should not become pressure. We may remember that the rays fall, and the opening is the flower’s own work.
