ದೊಡ್ಡ ರೋಗವೊಂದನ್ನು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಗೆದ್ದ ವೈದ್ಯರೂ ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ಅದೇ ರೋಗದ ಮುಂದೆ ನಿಂತಾಗ ಒಳಗೊಳಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಅಳುಕುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಗೆದ್ದಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಧೈರ್ಯ ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಈ ಉದ್ದನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದನ್ನೇ ರಾಮಾಯಣದ ಸಾಗರದ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿನ ಹೆಸರು ಖಚಿತವಿಲ್ಲ, ಪ್ರತಿ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂವತ್ತೆಂಟು ಅಕ್ಷರಗಳಿವೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಸೇತುವೆ ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳನ್ನು ತಂದೆಸೆದಾಗ ಅದರ ವೇಗಕ್ಕೆ ನೀರೆಲ್ಲ ಚಿಮ್ಮಿ ಸಾಗರದ ಒಡಲಿನ ಆಳ ಬಯಲಾಯಿತು. ಆದರೂ ಅದನ್ನು ಗೋವಿನ ಕಾಲ್ಗುರುತಿನಂತೆ ದಾಟಿದ ಹನುಮಂತನಿಗೂ ಆ ಸಾಗರ ಒಳಗೊಳಗೆ ಭಯ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸಿತು. ತುಂಬಿರುವಿಕೆಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ದೊಡ್ಡವರ ಮೀರಲಾಗದ ಗುಣ ಸಣ್ಣವರದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

When mountains were flung in with the eagerness of starting the bridge, the speed threw all the water up and bared the deep hollow of the ocean’s belly. Even so, that ocean put a fear inside Maruti, who had crossed it as if it were a cow’s hoofprint. By reason of fullness, the unconquerable quality of the great exceeds that of the small.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಗೋಷ್ಪದ ಎಂದರೆ ಹಸುವಿನ ಕಾಲ್ಗುರುತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತ ನೀರು. ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೋ ಬಹಳ ಸುಲಭವಾದದ್ದನ್ನು ಹೇಳಲು ಇದು ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಹೋಲಿಕೆ.

Goshpada is the water standing in a cow’s hoofprint. In Sanskrit it is a well known comparison for something very easy.

ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಸಾಲು ಒಂದೇ ಉದ್ದ ಸಮಾಸ. ಪಾಠ ಮುದ್ರಿತ ಪ್ರತಿಯನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ತುಚ್ಛಸ್ಯ ಪದದ ಅರ್ಥ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಅನಿಶ್ಚಿತವಾಗಿರಬಹುದು. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸಹಜ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

The first line is a single long compound. The reading follows the printed text and the sense of tucchasya may be slightly uncertain. We have given the most natural sense.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಒಂದು ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಳಗಿದ ಮಾತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಹಗುರವಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಬಾರದು. ಅನುಭವಸ್ಥ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಕನಿಗೂ ಪ್ರತಿ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ಮೊದಲು ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಅಳುಕು ಇರಬೇಕು.

Mastery in one matter is no reason to take it lightly. Even an experienced surgeon should keep a small unease before each operation.

ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಅರ್ಥವೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯ: ಶಾಂತವಾಗಿ ತುಂಬಿರುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಅಳೆಯಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಗದ್ದಲ ಮಾಡದವರನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಪರೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಬಾರದು.

Another reading is also possible: a person who is quietly full cannot be measured easily. Do not take the quiet for the small.
