ವಿಷಧರತೋಽಪ್ಯತಿವಿಷಮಃ: ಹಾವಿಗಿಂತ ಭಯಂಕರ, ನಕುಲದ್ವೇಷಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕುಲದ್ವೇಷಿ

ಹೊಲದ ಬದುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾವು ಮತ್ತು ಮುಂಗುಸಿ ಎದುರಾದರೆ ರೈತರು ದೂರ ನಿಂತು ನೋಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅದು ಇಬ್ಬರ ನಡುವಿನ ಹಳೆಯ ವೈರ.

ಆರ್ಯಾ ಛಂದಸ್ಸಿನ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ವೈರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಂದು ಶಬ್ದಚಮತ್ಕಾರ ಕಟ್ಟಿ, ಚಾಡಿಕೋರ ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕೆಟ್ಟವನು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತದೆ.

विषधरतोऽप्यतिविषमः खल इति न मृषा वदन्ति विद्वांसः

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ವಿಷಧರತೋಽಪ್ಯತಿವಿಷಮಃ (विषधरतोऽप्यतिविषमः, viṣadharato’pyativiṣamaḥ) = ಹಾವಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಅತಿ ಭಯಂಕರ (more dreadful even than the poison-bearer)
ಖಲ ಇತಿ (खल इति, khala iti) = ದುಷ್ಟನೆಂದು (the crooked man, so)
ನ (न, na) = ಅಲ್ಲ (not)
ಮೃಷಾ (मृषा, mṛṣā) = ಸುಳ್ಳು (falsely)
ವದಂತಿ (वदन्ति, vadanti) = ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ (say)
ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸಃ (विद्वांसः, vidvāṃsaḥ) = ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರು (the learned)
ಯದಯಂ (यदयं, yadayaṃ) = ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಇವನು (since this one)
ನಕುಲದ್ವೇಷೀ (नकुलद्वेषी, nakuladveṣī) = ಮುಂಗುಸಿಯ ವೈರಿ (the enemy of the mongoose)
ಸ (स, sa) = ಅವನು (that one)
ಕುಲದ್ವೇಷೀ (कुलद्वेषी, kuladveṣī) = ಕುಲದ ವೈರಿ (the enemy of the family)
ಪುನಃ (पुनः, punaḥ) = ಆದರೆ (whereas)
ಪಿಶುನಃ (पिशुनः, piśunaḥ) = ಚಾಡಿಕೋರ (the slanderer)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ದುಷ್ಟ ಹಾವಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಅತಿ ಭಯಂಕರ ಎಂದು ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರು ಸುಳ್ಳು ಹೇಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಹಾವು ಮುಂಗುಸಿಯ ವೈರಿ, ಆದರೆ ಚಾಡಿಕೋರ ಕುಲದ ವೈರಿ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The learned do not say falsely that the wicked man is more dreadful even than the snake. For the snake is the enemy of the mongoose, whereas the slanderer is the enemy of the whole family.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಪದ ಚಮತ್ಕಾರ ನಕುಲ ಮತ್ತು ಕುಲ ಎಂಬ ಎರಡು ಪದಗಳಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ನಕುಲ ಎಂದರೆ ಮುಂಗುಸಿ, ಅದರಿಂದ ಮೊದಲ ಅಕ್ಷರ ತೆಗೆದರೆ ಕುಲ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಾವಿನ ವೈರ ಒಂದು ಜೀವಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ, ಚಾಡಿಕೋರನದು ಇಡೀ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಮೇಲೆ.

The play is on nakula and kula. Nakula is the mongoose, and drop its first syllable and kula, the family, remains. The snake’s enmity is against one creature, the slanderer’s against a whole family.

ವಿಷಧರ ಎಂದರೆ ವಿಷ ಹೊತ್ತವನು, ಅಂದರೆ ಹಾವು. ವಿಷಮ ಎಂದರೆ ಕಷ್ಟಕರ, ಅಸಮ. ಪದಗಳ ಜೋಡಣೆ ಮೊದಲ ಸಾಲಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಒಂದು ಧ್ವನಿಯಾಟ ತರುತ್ತದೆ.

Vishadhara means bearer of poison, that is, a snake. Vishama means harsh or uneven. The pairing of the words brings a small sound-play to the first line too.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಚಾಡಿ ಒಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ನೋಯಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದು ಕುಟುಂಬ, ತಂಡ, ಇಡೀ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯ ವಾತಾವರಣವನ್ನೂ ಹುಳಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.

Gossip does not hurt only one person. It sours a family, a team and the whole atmosphere of a hospital ward.

ಕೇಳಿದ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಮುಂದೆ ಹೇಳುವ ಮೊದಲು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು. ನಮ್ಮ ಬಾಯಿ ಚಾಡಿಯ ದಾರಿಯಾಗದಂತೆ ನೋಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದೇ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ನಮಗಾಗಿ ಇರುವ ಪಾಠ.
