ಮದುವೆ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರು ಎಷ್ಟು ಒಡವೆ ತೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಗಮನಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನನ್ನು ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸುವುದು ಬೇರೆ ಎಂದು ಹಿರಿಯರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ದೇಹದ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಅಂಗಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಗುಣವನ್ನು ಆಭರಣವಾಗಿ ಇಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದೊಂದು ನಾಲ್ಕು ಪಾದಗಳ ವೃತ್ತ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಗಳಲು ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದ ತ್ಯಾಗ, ತಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುವಿನ ಪಾದಗಳ ಮೇಲಿನ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಬಾಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ಯವಾದ ಮಾತು, ಭುಜಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋಲಿಕೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಶೌರ್ಯ, ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಸ್ಥವಾದ ನಡವಳಿಕೆ, ಕಲಿತ ವಿದ್ಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದೇ ವ್ರತದ ಫಲ. ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲದೆಯೂ ಇದು ಸ್ವಭಾವತಃ ಮಹಾತ್ಮರಾದವರ ಅಲಂಕಾರ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Praiseworthy giving in the hand, devotion to the guru’s feet in the head, true speech in the mouth, matchless valour in the victorious arms, steady conduct in the heart, learning that has the fruit of its one vow. Even without wealth, this is the ornament of the naturally great.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಶ್ರುತಮಧಿಗತೈಕವ್ರತಫಲಂ ಎಂಬ ಸಮಾಸ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಉದ್ದ. ಕಲಿತದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದೇ ವ್ರತವೇ ಫಲ ಎಂದು ಓದಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ಅಂದರೆ ವಿದ್ಯೆ ನಡವಳಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳಿಯಬೇಕು. ಇದು ನಮ್ಮ ಓದು, ಬೇರೆ ವಿವರಣೆಯೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯ.

The compound srutam adhigata eka vrata phalam is rather long. We have read it as learning whose one fruit is its vow, that is, learning must come down into conduct. This is our reading, and another explanation is possible.

ಪ್ರತಿ ಅಂಗಕ್ಕೂ ಒಂದು ಗುಣ ಹೀಗೆ ಒಂದೊಂದಾಗಿ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಒಡವೆ ಇಡುವ ಕೈ, ಕೊರಳು, ತಲೆಗಳಿಗೇ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ತೊಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

Each limb gets one virtue in turn. The very places where jewellery usually goes, hand, neck and head, are here dressed in virtues instead.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಕಲಿಯುವವರಿಗೆ ಇದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಪಟ್ಟಿ. ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೌಶಲ, ತಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಿನಯ, ಬಾಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ಯ ಇವು ಮೂರೂ ರೋಗಿಯ ಮುಂದೆ ಒಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತವೆ.

This is a good list for those learning medicine. Skill in the hand, humility in the head and truth in the mouth all work together in front of a patient.

ಸಂಪತ್ತಿಲ್ಲದೆಯೂ ಎಂಬ ಮಾತು ಮುಖ್ಯ. ಇವನ್ನು ಗಳಿಸಲು ಹಣ ಬೇಕಿಲ್ಲ, ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಸಾಕು.

The phrase even without wealth is the key one. These cost no money to gain, only a little daily practice.
