Who lined the eyes of the does with kohl. Who gave the peacocks their lovely plumage. Who set the petals in a cluster in the lotus. Who puts humility into men of good birth. The answer left unspoken is that all of it came on its own.
About this subhashita
The questions are not answered. We read the unspoken answer as nature itself, but that is an interpretation, not something the verse states.
Kulaja means one born in a good family. The stress seems to fall on upbringing, not pride of birth. The three images, the dark rim of a deer’s eye, the peacock’s plume and the lotus petal, are all ornaments that come with the creature from birth.

Manners are caught more than taught. A child’s courtesy mirrors the home, and the verse leaves us with that thought.
Saying humility comes with birth is not true in every case. Keeping it after being raised well is still a choice.
