ಬೇಸಗೆಯ ಮಧ್ಯಾಹ್ನ ಕಡಲ ದಂಡೆಯ ಮರಳಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರಿಗಾಲಿಟ್ಟವರಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತು: ಬಿಸಿಲಿಗಿಂತ ಮರಳೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಚುರುಕು ಮುಟ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ಗೀತಿ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದೇ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು, ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬರ ಕೃಪೆಯಿಂದ ಅಧಿಕಾರ ಪಡೆದ ನೀಚನಿಗೆ ಹೊಂದಿಸಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ.

रविरपि न दहति तादृग्यादृक्संदहति वालुकानिकरः
अन्यस्माल्लब्धपदो नीचः प्रायेण दुःसहो भवति

ಸುಭಾಷಿತ (IAST)

ravirapi na dahati tādṛgyādṛksaṃdahati vālukānikaraḥ
anyasmāllabdhapado nīcaḥ prāyeṇa duḥsaho bhavati

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ರವಿರಪಿ (रविरपि, ravirapi) = ಸೂರ್ಯನೂ (even the sun)
ನ ದಹತಿ (न दहति, na dahati) = ಸುಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ (does not burn)
ತಾದೃಗ್ಯಾದೃಕ್ಸಂದಹತಿ (तादृग्यादृक्संदहति, tādṛgyādṛksaṃdahati) = ಎಷ್ಟು ಸುಡುತ್ತದೋ ಅಷ್ಟು (as much as it burns)
ವಾಲುಕಾನಿಕರಃ (वालुकानिकरः, vālukānikaraḥ) = ಮರಳಿನ ರಾಶಿ (the heap of sand)
ಅನ್ಯಸ್ಮಾಲ್ಲಬ್ಧಪದೋ (अन्यस्माल्लब्धपदो, anyasmāllabdhapado) = ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬರಿಂದ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದ (who has got his place from another)
ನೀಚಃ (नीचः, nīcaḥ) = ನೀಚ (the low man)
ಪ್ರಾಯೇಣ (प्रायेण, prāyeṇa) = ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ (for the most part)
ದುಃಸಹೋ (दुःसहो, duḥsaho) = ಸಹಿಸಲು ಕಷ್ಟವಾದವನು (hard to bear)
ಭವತಿ (भवति, bhavati) = ಆಗುತ್ತಾನೆ (becomes)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಸೂರ್ಯನೂ ಮರಳಿನ ರಾಶಿ ಸುಡುವಷ್ಟು ಸುಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬರಿಂದ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದ ನೀಚ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಸಹಿಸಲು ಕಷ್ಟವಾದವನಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Not even the sun burns as much as a heap of sand does. In the same way, a low man who has received his position from another is, for the most part, hard to bear.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಮರಳಿನ ಶಾಖ ಅದರದ್ದಲ್ಲ, ಸೂರ್ಯನಿಂದ ಪಡೆದದ್ದು. ಅನ್ಯರಿಂದ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದವನ ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಇದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೊಂದುವ ಹೋಲಿಕೆ ಕಷ್ಟ.

The sand’s heat is not its own but taken from the sun. It is hard to find a closer image for one who holds a place given by another.

ಪ್ರಾಯೇಣ ಎಂದರೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ. ಇದು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಹೇಳಿದ ನಿಯಮವಲ್ಲ, ಒಂದು ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿದ ಮಾತು.

Prayena means for the most part. It is not a law for everyone but the naming of a tendency.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಹೊಸದಾಗಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಸ್ಥಾನದ ಬಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಳಗಿನವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಗದರುವ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕರನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲ ಕಚೇರಿಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಅವರ ಬಿಸಿ ಸ್ವಂತದ್ದಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಸಹಿಸುವುದು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸುಲಭ.

We have all seen managers who bark at those below them on the strength of a newly given post. Remembering that their heat is not their own makes it a little easier to bear.

ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದವರೆಲ್ಲ ಹೀಗಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನಮಗೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರ ಸಿಕ್ಕಾಗ ನಾವು ಮರಳಾಗುತ್ತೇವೋ ನೆರಳಾಗುತ್ತೇವೋ ಎಂದು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನೇ ಕೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲೂ ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ನೆಪ.

Not everyone who gains a post is like this. The verse is also a good occasion to ask ourselves whether, given authority, we would turn out sand or shade.
