ತ್ಯಕ್ತ್ವಾಪಿ ನಿಜಪ್ರಾಣಾನ್: ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣ ತೆತ್ತೂ ಅಡ್ಡಿ ಮಾಡುವವನು

ಹಬ್ಬದ ಊಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ತುತ್ತಿನೊಳಗೆ ನೊಣ ಕಂಡರೆ ಊಟವೇ ಮುಗಿದಂತೆ. ಅಷ್ಟು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಜೀವಿ ಅಷ್ಟು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಹಾಳು ಮಾಡಬಲ್ಲದು.

ಈ ಗೀತಿ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಆ ನೊಣವನ್ನೇ ದುಷ್ಟನ ಚಿತ್ರವಾಗಿ ಬಳಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ತ್ಯಕ್ತ್ವಾಪಿ (त्यक्त्वापि, tyaktvāpi) = ಬಿಟ್ಟರೂ (even after giving up)
ನಿಜಪ್ರಾಣಾನ್ಪರಹಿತವಿಘ್ನಂ (निजप्राणान्परहितविघ्नं, nijaprāṇānparahitavighnaṃ) = ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣಗಳನ್ನು, ಬೇರೆಯವರ ಹಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಅಡ್ಡಿಯನ್ನು (his own life, an obstacle to the good of others)
ಖಲಃ (खलः, khalaḥ) = ದುಷ್ಟ (the crooked man)
ಕರೋತ್ಯೇವ (करोत्येव, karotyeva) = ಮಾಡಿಯೇ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ (does indeed do)
ಕವಲೇ (कवले, kavale) = ತುತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ (in a morsel)
ಪತಿತಾ (पतिता, patitā) = ಬಿದ್ದ (fallen)
ಸದ್ಯೋ (सद्यो, sadyo) = ಕೂಡಲೇ (at once)
ವಮಯತಿ (वमयति, vamayati) = ವಾಂತಿ ಮಾಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ (makes vomit)
ಖಲು (खलु, khalu) = ನಿಜವಾಗಿ (indeed)
ಮಕ್ಷಿಕಾನ್ನಭೋಕ್ತಾರಮ್ (मक्षिकान्नभोक्तारम्, makṣikānnabhoktāram) = ನೊಣ ಬಿದ್ದ ಅನ್ನ ತಿನ್ನುವವನನ್ನು (the eater of food with a fly in it)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ದುಷ್ಟ ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನೇ ಬಿಡಬೇಕಾದರೂ ಬೇರೆಯವರ ಹಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಅಡ್ಡಿಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಯೇ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ತುತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿದ್ದ ನೊಣ ತಾನು ಸತ್ತರೂ ಉಣ್ಣುವವನಿಗೆ ಕೂಡಲೇ ವಾಂತಿ ಬರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಅಲ್ಲವೇ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Even at the cost of his own life, the crooked man will put an obstacle in the way of another’s good. A fly that has fallen into a morsel, though it dies, at once makes the eater bring up his meal.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ನೊಣ ತಾನು ಸತ್ತರೂ ಊಟವನ್ನು ಹಾಳು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನಷ್ಟದ ಹೋಲಿಕೆ ಎರಡು ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಇದೆ: ದುಷ್ಟನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣ, ಉಣ್ಣುವವನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಊಟ.

The fly spoils the meal even in dying. The loss falls on both sides: the wicked man’s own life, the diner’s dinner.

ವಿಘ್ನ ಎಂದರೆ ಅಡ್ಡಿ. ದುಷ್ಟನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಲಾಭ ಮುಖ್ಯವಲ್ಲ, ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರ ಹಿತ ತಪ್ಪಿಸುವುದೇ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ತಿರುವು ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

Vighna means obstacle. The turn here is that his own gain does not matter to him, only the frustration of another’s good.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಯಾರಿಗೂ ಲಾಭವಿಲ್ಲದ ಅಡ್ಡಿಯನ್ನು ಕೆಲವರು ಕೇವಲ ಅಡ್ಡಿಗಾಗಿಯೇ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಯೋಜನೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾರಣವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ತಡೆಯುವವರು ನಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತೇ ಇದೆ.

Some people obstruct for the sake of obstruction, with no gain to anyone. We all know the person who blocks a good plan in a meeting without reason.

ಅಂಥವರ ಜೊತೆ ವಾದಿಸುವ ಮೊದಲು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಏನು ಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು. ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ಏನೂ ಬೇಡ ಎಂಬುದೇ ಉತ್ತರ, ಆಗ ವಾದ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ.

Before arguing with such a person it helps to ask what they want. Sometimes the answer is nothing at all, and then the argument is wasted.
