ವ್ಯೋಮ್ನಿ ಸ ವಾಸಂ ಕುರುತೇ: ಖಲನಿಗೆ ಗೌರವ ಕೊಡುವವನ ಆಕಾಶದ ಮನೆ

ಸಮುದ್ರ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಮರಳಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಚಿತ್ರ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಒಂದು ಅಲೆ ಬಂದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಅಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದರೂ ಅವರು ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ ಮತ್ತೆ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಈ ಆರ್ಯಾ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ ಉಳಿಯದ ಮೂರು ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿ, ಖಲನಿಗೆ ಗೌರವ ಕೊಡುವುದನ್ನು ಅವುಗಳ ಸಾಲಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ವ್ಯೋಮ್ನಿ (व्योम्नि, vyomni) = ಆಕಾಶದಲ್ಲಿ (in the sky)
ಸಃ (सः, saḥ) = ಅವನು (he)
ವಾಸಮ್ (वासम्, vāsam) = ವಾಸವನ್ನು (a dwelling)
ಕುರುತೇ (कुरुते, kurute) = ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ (makes)
ಚಿತ್ರಮ್ (चित्रम्, citram) = ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು (a picture)
ನಿರ್ಮಾತಿ (निर्माति, nirmāti) = ರಚಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ (creates)
ಸುಂದರಮ್ (सुन्दरम्, sundaram) = ಸುಂದರವಾದ (a beautiful one)
ಪವನೇ (पवने, pavane) = ಗಾಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ (in the wind)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಖಲನಿಗೆ ಸತ್ಕಾರ ಮಾಡುವವನು ಆಕಾಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಗಾಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುಂದರ ಚಿತ್ರ ರಚಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ, ನೀರಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಗೆರೆ ಎಳೆಯುತ್ತಾನೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

Whoever shows honour to the wicked is making a home in the sky, creating a beautiful picture in the wind, and drawing lines on water.

ಈ ಸುಭಾಷಿತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this subhashita

ಮೂರು ಚಿತ್ರಗಳೂ ಉಳಿಯದ ಕೆಲಸಗಳು: ಆಕಾಶದ ವಾಸ, ಗಾಳಿಯ ಚಿತ್ರ, ನೀರಿನ ಗೆರೆ. ಒಂದೊಂದೂ ಮುಂದಿನದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ವ್ಯರ್ಥ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಕವಿ ಜೋಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ.

The three images are all works that do not last: a home in the sky, a picture in the wind, a line on water. The poet lines them up so that each seems more futile than the one before.

ಸತ್ಕಾರ ಎಂದರೆ ಆದರ ಮತ್ತು ಗೌರವ. ಕೆಟ್ಟವನಿಗೆ ಗೌರವ ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಅದು ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಯ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಮರಳದು ಎಂಬುದು ಒಳಾರ್ಥ. ಸುಂದರ ಚಿತ್ರ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಅದು ಕಾಣಿಸದು ಎನ್ನುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯ ಇದೆ.

Satkara means courtesy and honour. The hidden sense is that honour shown to a bad man does not come back as thanks. There is irony in calling it a beautiful picture that can never be seen.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಯಾವ ಗೌರವ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಯೋಚಿಸಬೇಕು. ಶ್ರಮ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾಗುವ ಕಡೆ ಹಾಕುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಫಲ ಕೊಡಬಲ್ಲ ಕಡೆ ಹಾಕುವುದು ವಿವೇಕ.

We should think about whom we honour and how. It is wiser to spend effort where it can bear fruit than where it is lost.

ಸೌಜನ್ಯ ತೋರುವುದು ಬೇರೆ, ಸತ್ಕಾರ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಬೇರೆ. ಕಷ್ಟ ಕೊಡುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಂದಿಗೂ ಸೌಜನ್ಯ ಬಿಡಬಾರದು. ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೇಳುವುದು ಅತಿಯಾದ ಸತ್ಕಾರದ ವ್ಯರ್ಥತೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ.

Showing courtesy is one thing, lavishing honour is another. Courtesy should not be dropped even with a troublesome person. The verse speaks only of the futility of excessive honour.
