ಮಂಗಲಂ ಭಗವಾನ್ ವಿಷ್ಣುಃ: ಮದುವೆಯ ಮಂಟಪದಿಂದ ಮನೆಯವರೆಗೆ

ಮದುವೆಯ ಆಮಂತ್ರಣ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಮೇಲ್ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ, ಗೃಹಪ್ರವೇಶದ ಬಾಗಿಲಿನ ತೋರಣದ ಬಳಿ, ಹೊಸ ವಾಹನದ ಪೂಜೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೂ ಕಿವಿಗೂ ಬೀಳುತ್ತದೆ.

ನಾಲ್ಕು ಪಾದಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಮಂಗಲ ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಪುನರಾವರ್ತನೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಷ್ಣುವೇ ಮಂಗಳ, ಅವನ ಗರುಡಧ್ವಜವೇ ಮಂಗಳ, ಅವನ ಕಮಲನಯನವೇ ಮಂಗಳ, ಹರಿಯೇ ಮಂಗಳದ ಮನೆ.

ಮಂಗಲಂ ಭಗವಾನ್ ವಿಷ್ಣುಃ ಮಂಗಲಂ ಗರುಡಧ್ವಜಃ ।
ಮಂಗಲಂ ಪುಂಡರೀಕಾಕ್ಷಃ ಮಂಗಲಾಯತನಂ ಹರಿಃ ॥

मङ्गलं भगवान् विष्णुः मङ्गलं गरुडध्वजः ।
मङ्गलं पुण्डरीकाक्षः मङ्गलायतनं हरिः ॥

ಶ್ಲೋಕ (IAST)

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ

ಮಂಗಲಮ್ (मङ्गलम्, maṅgalam) = ಮಂಗಳ, ಶುಭ (auspiciousness)
ಭಗವಾನ್ (भगवान्, bhagavān) = ಭಗವಂತನಾದ (the blessed lord)
ವಿಷ್ಣುಃ (विष्णुः, viṣṇuḥ) = ವಿಷ್ಣು (Vishnu)
ಗರುಡಧ್ವಜಃ (गरुडध्वजः, garuḍadhvajaḥ) = ಗರುಡನ ಧ್ವಜವುಳ್ಳವನು (he whose banner bears Garuda)
ಪುಂಡರೀಕಾಕ್ಷಃ (पुण्डरीकाक्षः, puṇḍarīkākṣaḥ) = ಬಿಳಿಯ ಕಮಲದಂತಹ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳವನು (the lotus-eyed)
ಮಂಗಲಾಯತನಮ್ (मङ्गलायतनम्, maṅgalāyatanam) = ಮಂಗಳದ ನೆಲೆ, ಮಂಗಳದ ಮನೆ (the abode of auspiciousness)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)

ಭಗವಂತನಾದ ವಿಷ್ಣು ಮಂಗಳಸ್ವರೂಪ. ಗರುಡಧ್ವಜ ಮಂಗಳಸ್ವರೂಪ. ಕಮಲನಯನ ಮಂಗಳಸ್ವರೂಪ. ಹರಿಯೇ ಮಂಗಳದ ನೆಲೆ.

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)

The blessed lord Vishnu is auspiciousness. He whose banner bears Garuda is auspiciousness. The lotus-eyed one is auspiciousness. Hari is the very home of all that is auspicious.

ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಬಗ್ಗೆAbout this verse

ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳ ಎಂದು ಳ ಬಳಸಿ ಬರೆಯುವುದು ರೂಢಿ. ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಪದ ಮಂಗಲ, ಲ ಇರುವುದು; ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಪಾಠವನ್ನು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಉಚ್ಚಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಕೇಳಿಬರುತ್ತವೆ.

Kannada usually writes mangala with the letter lla. The Sanskrit word is mangala with la, and the verse is given here in its Sanskrit form. Both are heard in recitation.

ಮದುವೆಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಮಂಗಲಂ ಕೋಸಲೇಂದ್ರಾಯ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಮಂಗಳ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳನ್ನೂ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ಮೂಲ ಗ್ರಂಥ ಖಚಿತವಿಲ್ಲ.

At weddings other verses of blessing, such as mangalam kosalendraya, are said alongside it. The source text of this verse is not certain.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today

ಶುಭಕಾರ್ಯದ ಗದ್ದಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲಂಕಾರ, ಊಟ, ಅತಿಥಿಗಳ ಲೆಕ್ಕಾಚಾರ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಆವರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಹದಿನೈದು ಸೆಕೆಂಡು ಆ ದಿನದ ನಿಜವಾದ ಉದ್ದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ: ಇಬ್ಬರ, ಒಂದು ಮನೆಯ ಮಂಗಳ.

In the bustle of a celebration, decorations, food and guest lists take over. These fifteen seconds recall what the day is really for: the welfare of two people, of one household.

ಮಂಗಳವನ್ನು ಹೊರಗೆ ಹುಡುಕುವ ಬದಲು ಅದರ ನೆಲೆ ಒಂದಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಶ್ಲೋಕ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಆ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಆತಂಕದ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಆಸರೆ.

Instead of seeking welfare outside, the verse says it has a home. That trust steadies the mind on anxious days.
