ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಅಥ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತಾಂದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ಧಾರ್ತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಾನ್ಕಪಿಧ್ವಜಃ ।
ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತೇ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಸಂಪಾತೇ ಧನುರುದ್ಯಮ್ಯ ಪಾಂಡವಃ ॥ 20 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
अथ व्यवस्थितान्दृष्ट्वा धार्तराष्ट्रान्कपिध्वजः ।
प्रवृत्ते शस्त्रसम्पाते धनुरुद्यम्य पाण्डवः ॥ 20 ॥

ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಅಥ (अथ, atha) = ಆಗ (then)
- ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತಾನ್ (व्यवस्थितान्, vyavasthitān) = ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿ ನಿಂತ (standing in battle array)
- ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ (दृष्ट्वा, dṛṣṭvā) = ನೋಡಿ (seeing)
- ಧಾರ್ತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಾನ್ (धार्तराष्ट्रान्, dhārtarāṣṭrān) = ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರನ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು (the sons of Dhritarashtra)
- ಕಪಿಧ್ವಜಃ (कपिध्वजः, kapidhvajaḥ) = ಕಪಿಧ್ವಜ, ಹನುಮಂತನ ಚಿಹ್ನೆಯ ಧ್ವಜವುಳ್ಳವನು (the one whose banner bears Hanuman)
- ಪ್ರವೃತ್ತೇ (प्रवृत्ते, pravṛtte) = ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ (as it was about to begin)
- ಶಸ್ತ್ರಸಂಪಾತೇ (शस्त्रसम्पाते, śastrasampāte) = ಶಸ್ತ್ರಗಳ ಹೊಡೆದಾಟ (the clash of weapons)
- ಧನುಃ (धनुः, dhanuḥ) = ಬಿಲ್ಲನ್ನು (the bow)
- ಉದ್ಯಮ್ಯ (उद्यम्य, udyamya) = ಎತ್ತಿ (raising)
- ಪಾಂಡವಃ (पाण्डवः, pāṇḍavaḥ) = ಪಾಂಡವ, ಅಂದರೆ ಅರ್ಜುನ (the son of Pandu, Arjuna)
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಆಗ, ಶಸ್ತ್ರಗಳ ಹೊಡೆದಾಟ ಇನ್ನೇನು ಶುರುವಾಗಬೇಕು ಎನ್ನುವಾಗ, ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿ ನಿಂತ ಧೃತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರನ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ, ಕಪಿಧ್ವಜನಾದ ಪಾಂಡವ ಅರ್ಜುನ ತನ್ನ ಬಿಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿದನು,
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Then, as the clash of weapons was about to begin, seeing the sons of Dhritarashtra standing in battle array, the son of Pandu, whose banner bears Hanuman, raised his bow,

ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳು ಅರ್ಜುನ ಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ವಿನಂತಿಯನ್ನು ವರ್ಣಿಸುತ್ತವೆ ಎಂದು ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಗುರುತಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಈ ಶ್ಲೋಕದ ವಾಕ್ಯ ಮುಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಗಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತಾನ್ ಎಂದರೆ ಯುದ್ಧದ ಸಿದ್ಧತೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಸ್ಥಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತವರು. ಶಸ್ತ್ರಸಂಪಾತ ಎಂದರೆ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಗಳು ಹಾರಾಡಲು ಶುರುವಾಗುವ ಕ್ಷಣ. ಗೀತೆ ನಡೆಯುವುದು ಈ ಕ್ಷಣದ ಅಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿ.
Sridhara Swami marks the four verses from here as describing Arjuna’s request to Krishna. The sentence begun in this verse ends in the next. Vyavasthitan means those standing in their positions, ready for battle. Shastrasampata is the moment when weapons begin to fly. The Gita unfolds on the edge of this moment.
ಅರ್ಜುನನನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕಪಿಧ್ವಜ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಭೀಮ ಮತ್ತು ಹನುಮಂತರ ಭೇಟಿಯ ಪ್ರಸಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ, ಯುದ್ಧದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತಾನು ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಧ್ವಜದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು ಗರ್ಜಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಹನುಮಂತ ಮಾತು ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂದು ಮಹಾಭಾರತದ ವನ ಪರ್ವ ಹೇಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಅದಲ್ಲದೆ ಈ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಜುನನಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ಗೊಂದಲವೂ ಕಾಣುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವನು ಬಿಲ್ಲು ಎತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ, ಹೋರಾಡಲು ಸಿದ್ಧನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
Arjuna is called kapidhvaja here, the one whose banner bears the monkey, Hanuman. The Vana Parva of the Mahabharata tells that when Bhima met Hanuman, Hanuman promised that in the coming war he would sit on Arjuna’s banner and roar. Besides, at this stage there is no sign of confusion in Arjuna. He has raised his bow; he is ready to fight.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಈ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಬಿಲ್ಲು ಎರಡು ಬಾರಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಅದು ಎತ್ತಿದ ಬಿಲ್ಲು. ಕೊನೆಯ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದು ಕೆಳಗಿಟ್ಟ ಬಿಲ್ಲು. ಈ ಎರಡರ ನಡುವೆ ಆದದ್ದು ಒಂದೇ: ಅವನು ಹತ್ತಿರದಿಂದ ನೋಡಿದ.
Arjuna’s bow appears twice in this chapter. Here it is raised. In the last verse it is laid down. Between the two only one thing happens: he looks closely.
ದೂರದಿಂದ ನೋಡುವಾಗ ನಾವು ತುಂಬ ಖಚಿತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಯಾವುದೇ ನಿರ್ಧಾರದ ಹಿಂದಿನ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಇರುವ ಧೈರ್ಯ, ಅದರ ಮುಖಾಮುಖಿಯಾದ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಇದರ ಅನುಭವ ಒಂದಲ್ಲ ಒಂದು ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
Seen from a distance, we are very sure. The courage we feel the night before a decision cannot be counted on to last into the morning we face it. Most of us have known this in one form or another.
