ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಯಾವದೇತಾನ್ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೇಽಹಂ ಯೋದ್ಧುಕಾಮಾನವಸ್ಥಿತಾನ್ ।
ಕೈರ್ಮಯಾ ಸಹ ಯೋದ್ಧವ್ಯಮಸ್ಮಿನ್ರಣಸಮುದ್ಯಮೇ ॥ 22 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (ದೇವನಾಗರಿ)
यावदेतान्निरीक्षेऽहं योद्धुकामानवस्थितान् ।
कैर्मया सह योद्धव्यमस्मिन्रणसमुद्यमे ॥ 22 ॥
ಶ್ಲೋಕ (IAST)
yāvadetānnirīkṣe’haṃ yoddhukāmānavasthitān |
kairmayā saha yoddhavyamasminraṇasamudyame || 22 ||
ಪದಶಃ ಅರ್ಥ
- ಯಾವತ್ (यावत्, yāvat) = ಎಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗೆ (until, so that)
- ಏತಾನ್ (एतान्, etān) = ಇವರನ್ನು (these)
- ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೇ (निरीक्षे, nirīkṣe) = ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ನೋಡುತ್ತೇನೆ (I observe closely)
- ಅಹಮ್ (अहम्, aham) = ನಾನು (I)
- ಯೋದ್ಧುಕಾಮಾನ್ (योद्धुकामान्, yoddhukāmān) = ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡಲು ಬಯಸುವ (eager to fight)
- ಅವಸ್ಥಿತಾನ್ (अवस्थितान्, avasthitān) = ನಿಂತಿರುವ (standing)
- ಕೈಃ (कैः, kaiḥ) = ಯಾರೊಡನೆ (with whom)
- ಮಯಾ (मया, mayā) = ನನ್ನಿಂದ (by me)
- ಸಹ (सह, saha) = ಜೊತೆ (together with)
- ಯೋದ್ಧವ್ಯಮ್ (योद्धव्यम्, yoddhavyam) = ಹೋರಾಡಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ (must be fought)

ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಕನ್ನಡ)
ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುವ ಬಯಕೆಯಿಂದ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ಇವರನ್ನು ನಾನು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ನೋಡುವವರೆಗೆ, ಈ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಯಾರೊಡನೆ ಹೋರಾಡಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯುವವರೆಗೆ, ರಥವನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸು.
ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಅರ್ಥ (ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್)
Halt it there until I have looked closely at these men standing eager for battle, and know with whom I must fight in this undertaking of war.
ಶ್ಲೋಕ 1.22ರ ವಿವರಣೆContext and commentary on verse 1.22
ಶ್ರೀಧರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಆಕ್ಷೇಪವನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ಉತ್ತರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ‘ನೀನು ಯೋಧ, ಯುದ್ಧ ನೋಡಲು ಬಂದವನಲ್ಲ. ನೋಡುವುದೇಕೆ?’ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಉತ್ತರ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲೇ ಇದೆ: ಯಾರೊಡನೆ ನಾನು ಹೋರಾಡಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಲು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಈ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಜುನನ ನೋಟ ಒಬ್ಬ ಯೋಧನ ಲೆಕ್ಕಾಚಾರದ ನೋಟ.
Sridhara Swami raises and answers an objection here. You are a warrior, not a spectator; why do you need to look? The answer is in the verse itself: to know with whom I must fight. So at this stage Arjuna’s look is the calculating look of a warrior.
ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೇ ಎಂಬ ಪದವನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಿ. ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ನೋಡುವುದಲ್ಲ, ಗಮನವಿಟ್ಟು ಪರಿಶೀಲಿಸುವುದು. ಅದಲ್ಲದೆ ಯೋದ್ಧುಕಾಮಾನ್, ಅಂದರೆ ಯುದ್ಧದ ಬಯಕೆಯುಳ್ಳವರು ಎಂಬ ಪದದಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಜುನ ಎದುರಿನವರನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಯೋಧರಾಗಿಯೇ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅವರು ಬಂಧುಗಳಾಗಿ ಕಾಣುವುದು ನಂತರ.
Notice the word nirikshe. It is not merely to see, but to look over with attention. Besides, in the word yoddhukaman, those eager to fight, Arjuna still sees those opposite as warriors. They will appear as kinsmen only later.
ಆಧಾರ: ಹಲವು ಮೂಲಗಳು. ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿರುವಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡೂ ಅರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ಇಂದಿನ ಬದುಕಿಗೆFor life today
ಯಾವುದೇ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಶುರು ಮಾಡುವ ಮೊದಲು ವೈದ್ಯರು ರೋಗಿಯನ್ನು ಹತ್ತಿರದಿಂದ ಪರೀಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಏನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ನಿರ್ಧಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಮೊದಲು ಏನಿದೆ ಎಂದು ನೋಡುವುದು ವಿವೇಕ. ಅರ್ಜುನ ಕೇಳುತ್ತಿರುವುದೂ ಅದನ್ನೇ.
Before starting any treatment, a doctor examines the patient closely. Seeing what is there before deciding what to do is wisdom. That is exactly what Arjuna is asking for.
ಆದರೆ ಹತ್ತಿರದ ನೋಟಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ಬೆಲೆ ಇದೆ. ಅದು ನಾವು ಹುಡುಕಲು ಹೋದದ್ದನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ತೋರಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಂಕಿಅಂಶಗಳ ನಡುವೆ ಒಂದು ಮುಖ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ, ಆ ಮುಖದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮದೇ ಏನೋ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಮೇಲೆ ಆ ನಿರ್ಧಾರ ಹಿಂದಿನಷ್ಟು ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಉಳಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
But a close look has a price. It does not show only what we went looking for. Among the numbers a face appears, and in that face something of our own. After that, the decision does not stay as easy as it was.
