ಭಗವದ್ಗೀತೆ 1.5: ಧೃಷ್ಟಕೇತುಶ್ಚೇಕಿತಾನಃ – ಅರ್ಥ

ಹಿಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಶುರುವಾದ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂದುವರಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಧೃಷ್ಟಕೇತು ಚೇದಿ ದೇಶದ ರಾಜ, ಶಿಶುಪಾಲನ ಮಗ. ಚೇಕಿತಾನ ವೃಷ್ಣಿ ವಂಶದ ಯಾದವ ವೀರ. ಕಾಶೀರಾಜ ಇಂದಿನ ವಾರಾಣಸಿಯ ಅರಸ.

The list begun in the previous verse continues here. Dhrishtaketu is the king of Chedi, the son of Shishupala. Chekitana is a Yadava warrior of the Vrishni clan. The king of Kashi rules what is today Varanasi.

ಕುಂತಿಭೋಜ ಕುಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಸಾಕಿ ಬೆಳೆಸಿದ ರಾಜ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಪಾಂಡವರಿಗೆ ಅವನು ತಾಯಿಯ ಕಡೆಯ ಹಿರಿಯ. ಪುರುಜಿತ್ ಅದೇ ಮನೆತನದವನು. ಕೆಲವು ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನಕಾರರು ‘ಪುರುಜಿತ್ ಕುಂತಿಭೋಜ’ ಎಂದು ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಓದುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಶೈಬ್ಯ ಶಿಬಿ ದೇಶದ ರಾಜ. ವೀರ್ಯವಾನ್, ನರಪುಂಗವ ಎಂಬ ವಿಶೇಷಣಗಳನ್ನು ಪಕ್ಕದ ಒಬ್ಬನಿಗೇ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸಬಹುದು, ಅಥವಾ ಪಟ್ಟಿಯ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಅನ್ವಯಿಸಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಮಧುಸೂದನ ಸರಸ್ವತಿಯವರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Kuntibhoja is the king who adopted and raised Kunti, so for the Pandavas he is an elder on their mother’s side. Purujit belongs to the same house, and some commentators read Purujit Kuntibhoja as one person. Shaibya is the king of the Shibi country. Madhusudana Saraswati says the epithets valiant and finest of men can go with the name beside them or with everyone in the list.

ಈ ಹೆಸರುಗಳನ್ನು ಬೇಗ ಓದಿ ಮುಗಿಸುವುದು ಸುಲಭ. ಆದರೆ ಪ್ರತಿ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಒಂದು ಸಂಬಂಧವಿದೆ. ಕುಂತಿಯ ತವರಿನವರು, ಬೀಗರು, ನೆಂಟರು. ಈ ಯುದ್ಧ ಅಪರಿಚಿತರ ನಡುವಿನದ್ದಲ್ಲ.

It is easy to read through these names quickly. But behind each name there is a relationship: Kunti’s own family, in-laws, kin. This is not a war between strangers.

ಎದುರು ಪಕ್ಷವನ್ನು ನಾವು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಗುಂಪಾಗಿ ನೋಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಹೆಸರು ಬಂದ ತಕ್ಷಣ ಆ ಗುಂಪು ಮನುಷ್ಯರಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಮುಂದೆ ಅರ್ಜುನನಿಗೆ ಆಗುವುದೂ ಇದೇ.

We usually see the other side as one crowd. The moment names appear, the crowd becomes people. That is exactly what will happen to Arjuna a little later.
